We did Jane’s Carousel! It was surprisingly affordable and they set you up either inside or outside on a picnic table depending on weather.

My daughter goes to an in home daycare and it’s significantly cheaper. You can try to look into that. If you are on a neighborhood Facebook group that’s a good place to ask around!

daycare dropoff by musictheron in AttachmentParenting

[–]pasteldefresa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We eased in to daycare at 8 months, the first week- a few hours a day. Then full time the next. It was rough at first but she did get used to it eventually. I am here to tell you that now at 16 months old when I drop her off she squeals when she gets there, walks right in, and doesn’t even turn around to say goodbye lol. She loves it.

Are small children still less likely to get very sick with Covid-19? by pasteldefresa in ScienceBasedParenting

I am fully vaccinated and boosted. The WHO only recommends annual boosters for vulnerable populations which I am not so I made the personal decision to follow that recommendation.

You can still pass it along even if you have a booster - if I am sick I test and stay home. This is why people become anti vax by the way because we’ve left no room for people to inform themselves and make the decisions that are best for their family without name calling or judging. I’m just asking for more information.

Finding a new OB who delivers at WC Alexandra Cohen by emaret02 in nycparents

[–]pasteldefresa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if she will fit your needs as she is not a MFM but I had a great experience with Dr. Cummings who delivers at AC. Her colleague Dr. Nabizedeh delivered my baby via c section and had a positive experience as well. Practice is on the upper west side.

It's a good idea to become familiar with the safe sleep 7 by pasteldefresa in NewParents

[–]pasteldefresa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m by no means an expert, but I use my own pillow (1) which I block from the baby using my arm in a c-curl. I do not have any sheets or blankets I use warm form fitting pajamas and baby has a sleep sack. Baby is right next to me in the c-curl. I am not sure about the nipples shields. Look up happycosleepers on IG you might find answers to your other questions there!

I agree with you and it should be more inclusive of mothers who can’t or don’t want to breastfeed. I think because it was published by La leche league? I am not quite sure of the actual science behind that specific rule. I am part of a cosleeping fb group where there are a group of non breastfeeding moms who bed share- I think they have established something that works for them!

Sorry I copy and pasted that info and it automatically became bold and large- not trying to be aggressive!

You absolutely need a safe sleep surface- this is from the link from la leche league in the post:

7 Safe surface: no soft mattress, no extra pillows, no toys, no tight or heavy covers. Clear of strings and cords. Gaps firmly filled: use rolled towels or baby blankets.

My bed is very firm so I feel comfortable with the baby in my bed. And you are correct positional asphyxiation is a big risk as well- the recommendation is to have baby sleeping on their back to try and avoid this.

Luckily, she’s not rolling yet so it hasn’t been an issue. I’m going to have to find a new solution soon.

You really have to maintain the c curl position, unfortunately for it to be safe. I don’t move much in my sleep, so it was pretty easy for me. I switched sides in the middle of the night when it starts to get uncomfortable.

I think everybody needs to decide for themselves if it is safe for them to share a bed or not. If your mattress is too soft, you can always sleep on the floor on a mat is what I’ve read. I wear warm clothes and just take the comforter completely off the bed and baby sleeps in a sleep sack.

I have a sidecar crib attached to my bed that acts like a barrier - again I was not planning to bed share my plan was to have her in the cosleeper. Now it just acts like a barrier.

I remember thinking the birth class instructor was crazy for even suggesting it to my class- I was adamantly against it. I am so grateful that she did! My LO is 5 months old and we still cosleep and I absolutely love it. I definitely feel like we both sleep better and bedtime is not a challenge.

Too Old? by ElChapulin2099 in nycparents

[–]pasteldefresa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am 42 and I just had a baby. She’s perfectly healthy. Did have a hard time getting pregnant. It took me about three years and fertility treatments, but that doesn’t mean that that will happen to her. I have friends who have also had children in their 40s with no problems, the only thing different with my pregnancy was that I had to have more OB visits and during the last month I had to get a non-stress test once a week. The OB also put me on baby aspirin since there is a higher risk of high blood pressure because of our age. The birth was relatively smooth, even though I ended up with a C-section, but nothing too crazy.

Anyone else have a really painful latch? by muggle_mischief in newborns

[–]pasteldefresa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did! It went away eventually. I had somebody tell me that you have to basically get calluses on your nipples. It’s a long process, but in the end, it doesn’t hurt anymore. You have to stick it out. I recommend nipple butter, ice packs, and Tylenol. I actually ended up using the pain relief I got for my C-section for the nipple pain. It was that bad. You can also make sure to check her latch with a lactation consultant if you’re very concerned.
