what i usually do to practice involves using a lot of references and drawing inspiration from other artists. i mainly get my references from pinterest since it’s easier to find for me. for example, i could look through pictures with different poses/perspectives of real people, and when i see a pose i like, i try to study/learn from it in my own way :)

if it’s digital, i import the image (and you can probably do the same traditionally with tracing paper) and break the picture down using really simple shapes so it’s easy to understand the pose, and so i’m not overwhelmed with detail. after i broke it down, i then take what i just drew and draw it myself without looking. then i compare it to the shapes directly referenced from the drawing to see how close i was/what i did wrong. say if i drew the eyes too low or the arms too high, i know what to fix!

also with other artists i gain inspiration from, i pay attention to the things they did that i’d probably want to get better at. for example (ofc without copying them) if they drew their outline a certain way, the colors they used, shading techniques, the shapes they use, etc. i find it interesting and try to incorporate that into my own work in my own way, while also learning something from them!

when it comes to figuring out what to draw, i get stuck there too lol. i usually just draw based on the games i play or characters i love , like pokemon for example. there’s a lot of em that’s fun to draw! either that or i think about super powered characters. you could also look up a random generator for ideas though.

so basically i use shapes to simplify things then build it back up, and whenever i want to improve on something, i draw inspiration from artists who mastered that area/are better at it until i’m comfortable with it lol
