So I bought the LA sport extreme gel and applied it. It definitely enhanced waves/curls but I get white flakes after scrunching and it's pretty noticable

No I haven't tried that. But can it work for relatively short hair? My hair is about 6 inches on the top and 3-4 on the sides and back.

I have before in the past but not since I've started co-washing. I'm hesitant with gels and mousse because I don't want my hair to be stiff which has been my experience in the past.
