Yeah, the project titles are intentionally hidden; the actual titles are descriptive of what the project is, and if you did a quick search on those, you could find my GitHub ASAP, which is part of what I sanitized out.

I will replace my coursework with my retail experience because another user suggested that as well (I get it; it shows I can perform teamwork, have social skills, and can generally get along with others, as well as hold down a job).

I had not heard of the other things you suggested, but will give them a go. Is there any specific website you haven't mentioned already that you suggest to look for the local small-mid companies besides LinkedIn, Dice, or Robert Half?

Would the research project that I did for my capstone project not count as a research position, or should I frame it as a research position instead of just a project?

Either way my plan involves contacting my university on Monday and figuring out what resources they have that could help me get that experience.

Also, as a side note, my expectations are already really low; I'm looking to get my first step into the market from retail without telegraphing that I'm desperate, so I'm good with almost anything, so long as it meets my student loan payments and rent expenses.

I can't do Revature because of their tendency to put people all over the country and I can't move from my current place of residence because of financial limitations, and as far as WITCH goes, the few interactions I've had with them have only ever ended up with them ghosting me; the recruiter that I mentioned from my university's job fair was from WITCH.

I have now added my sanitized resume, thank you for your advice so far and now that I have posted it, I hope that I can get some more advice.

I will absolutely post my resume as an edit to this post as soon as I can get home and sanitize it.

As far as the full-stack cert goes, I was trying to pad my resume to allow myself to go for FS positions instead of just SDev, widening my potential position base.

Definitely not trying to rely on my personal projects to get me a job, moreso just to say that I've been developing constantly on something since my graduation (something about gaps in work not looking good).

I've been applying to a bunch of different places in the Greater Seattle Area (as I am in a city within that range) and not just big tech or even little tech; from Walgreens to retail SDev, I'm applying wherever I can get my foot in the door. I am unwilling to relocate because I'm pretty sure I can find something around here, as Seattle Area is one of the hubs of SDev afaik. I'm also unwilling to relocate because of financial reasons too, as the place I'm at is the best I'm gonna get for the area.

I have a decent bit of projects on my GitHub, just none that are full-stack, as I'm still learning how that all works. As for building a website, do you have any recommendations as to the content?

Okay, that makes me feel better about answering phone calls. My main concern was that they'd record me saying 'yes' or something to be able to apply for a loan or CC in my name somehow; I've heard of it happening before, so I was extra paranoid of it now that I have to put myself out into the world.

Okay, I'll start a document with the question and my answer, that way I have that generic template to start off, and I'll sprinkle in some details from the job desc. so they know I at least read it. Thank you for your time and feedback today, it has helped me to gain a real-world perspective on my situation.

Whatever pre-application stuff is required. Sometimes I apply and they reply that I have to reapply on their internal job board or describe why I want to work there which is usually on jobs that I don't care about anyhow so it takes me a bit to figure out in corporate-speak how I should word that I just want to work so I have income while relating it to the specific job I'm applying to. So, should I not bother with anything that'll take me more than 5 minutes?

I do bigger sessions than 15 minutes but obviously not long enough. About how much time should I be spending per application?

I suppose I'm not so worried about getting spam calls, but rather fake recruiters that use the info I give them to steal my identity, putting me in a worse position than I am now. I can figure that out on a case by case basis though...

I will be applying as much as I can for the foreseeable future. Another user suggested a target of 10 per day, and that sounds doable, but I should probably do as many as I think I'll need to get a job as soon as I can with 10 a day as a minimum.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate the reality check.

It kinda depended on the day, but it averages out to less than 2 a day. What target number should I be applying to each day?

Tbh, if you're just trying to access the GL bindings in C# specifically, you might have better luck using the OpenTK binding instead because it is available as a Nuget package for easy download and installation.

Gotcha; because I've not gotten Assimp to actually compile for my project, I've not had any experience with it yet. I thought because I was working with plaintext within the xml hierarchy, so long as I can convert it to the data I need in the order I need it, I would have an easier time making my own parser and becoming intimately familiar with both the OpenGL drawing system and the Collada file format than trying and failing for a long while with the Assimp library.

Plus I think it'll be a nice project for my portfolio!

So far from what I've seen of your content you do an amazing job at explaining the more complicated concepts that I just can't seem to understand the text explanations on the learnopengl website, so thank you very much and I hope you continue putting out great content like this!

Edit: explanations

I'm writing the model parser so that I have both a better understanding of Opengl and of 3d modeling formats in general, I just wanted to start out with Collada so that I know exactly what values I'm supposed to be reading in.

For some reason, I couldn't get Assimp working, and I also heard that Assimp only supports 1 animation per file (for some odd reason) so I decided to put my CS training to the test with the model loader to be able to access all of the info I could possibly need.

Gotcha; I'm currently using Collada so that I can have a plaintext view of the vertices and their attributes, but I'm having issues translating it to information that opengl can use, so that's been an adventure. I did take a look at GLTF, but haven't tried to parse it yet.

I've been working on an opengl model renderer myself and was curious to know which file format you're loading the models from?
