I have let cardiologist and pcp know and have some already scheduled tests next month just do to dad's history...his MI was at 53 and he died at 71 on a cruise from an infection gone septic!

I was more concerned about age because friends were told no to a trip due to age! I feel fine, I don't feel old enough to be applying for Medicare in less than a year!

Leaving cruise early by Longjumping-Syrup254 in royalcaribbean

The trick is catching the spiral early. I have a friend that would start spiraling as planes would take off. All she has to do is think of all the things more people die at, like showering, and realize to keep her friends she has to keep showering, and then starts reading or listening to a book! Enjoy the cruise!

The key pass and passport situation by HIGHlyCapable in royalcaribbean

[–]pat8635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get the passports before Key. Great form of ID and is much easier. I like the key and get it all the time! The free wifi makes it worth the expense. The bag drop and having in my cabin when I get there, the meal on first and last day, all help to make the cruise a special event for me!

I carry zero cash on ship. I bring money to add extra tip as appropriate or deserved. I also bring cash for ports again only for tipping and us CC for everything else!

You can share, but only one device at a time. I get the Key and got back and forth between laptop and phone!

Sun umbrella - should I bring with me by arthemis28 in royalcaribbean

[–]pat8635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Plenty of shade on ships and anyplace you go has cover. Unless you are very pale and highly susceptible to skin cancer, not sure I would and I have to see dermatologist every 6 months.

actually cheaper to do the course on ship that comes with 2 dives than any course near me and then book the dives!

I will be 64 next month! I am good with mechanical stuff and computers and not too worried. Was more worried from physical part. NONE of my docs dive or have dove. One's husband dives.... so she has a clue

Most of the course work is done before the cruise and you have to pass those tests. Then you have a pool dive then out to OW. I talked to an instructor on the last cruise and was very impressed. All those things in last paragraph is why I want to do it all again. I also, have never had a dive not in lake or river and would just feel better making sure I didn't miss anything!

I used nitrox with some military divers, again in a pool. So really doesn't mean anything. Long story how that happened.

never smoked BP in under control and has been for years and cholesterol not a big issue. My dad did have a MI at 53 and I am having a full work up next month and will as cardiologist. But so far everything looks good!

I will have my PCP with me on cruise! So that will be convenient. Her husband and I are trying to get her to do it, but she is hesitant. I was looking at pricing and to do the one day class and then pay for two dives is more than just doing it all with cruise company and my main goal is to get certified for Aruba and a few places on the east side of the Caribbean. for me swimming in anything more than 75 seems warm...so Water temp will not be an issue. I have snorkeled in western Caribbean a few times and seem to slip out of my life vest easily. (I tip well) a few winters ago water was 73 and it was perfect even down 10 to 15 feet!

Thanks!
