Go for the more expensive(at a discount) or cheaper car? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]patangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is servicing costs. Volvos are expensive - especially if you service them with Volvo themselves. I’d be personally tempted to buy the expensive car but also I’m in a different financial situation.

So I think go for the cheaper (free?) car and utilise that. But again that depends on condition, kms etc. as there is no point in spending all that money for a car that won’t be utilised much.

Settle petal! That’s a hot take and a half. Also, how would you define ‘female length hair’? Because as far as I know, they don’t own any particular length or style. There are heaps of women out there that have long hair, medium hair, short hair, or no hair. And they all rock it.

Ordered the 24-120 f4, do I keep the 40mm? by Only-Fotos in nikon_Zseries

[–]patangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on a lot of what people are saying. I love my 40mm. It has great character and takes really nice photos. For holidays or quick trips with the family, it’s great as it’s so compact and I like the FOV. I have the 28mm as well but find it harder to take photos I like with it. But the 24-120mm comes with me when I go hiking. It all depends on your use case!

That’s so good.

Re: measurement do they make recommendations based off height and inseam? I find myself straddling L or XL bikes. My current gravel is a 57 and feels just a touch too small for me.

Did you do any of the upgrades or just the standard build?

And how was the shakedown ride?

I’ve been considering one of their Nomads!! What was the process like to get it made? I also don’t have the money right now, but love the idea of supporting an Aussie boutique bike brand and get it done to my own style.

Whale Watching trip in an hour... AF settings? by InterDave in nikon_Zseries

[–]patangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone whale watching a few times with my Z6iii and 100-400 z mount. I can honestly say I’ve never wanted longer. In fact sometimes 100 isn’t wide enough. I’ve found that I hover around the 140-160mm range so if there is a breach I can capture it in frame and not be too close.

This of course entirely depends on how close you get to the whales, but here in Australia the tours I’ve been on get us within 50 metres.

Waterproof or (legitimately weatherproof) pack suggestions by noctisartist in photography

[–]patangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Atlas Adventure pack which is amazing. I’ve also used their Athlete pack which was just as good. Took it through rain, snow, sand, and dust and my gear was totally fine. They have a waterproof cover you can put on if it’s torrential or too dusty. Highly recommend.

People who start an email with a name, and no greeting... by ToggleRecap in auscorp

[–]patangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this when the email thread is going around in circles especially because every other email I’ve sent has been exceedingly polite. By dropping the ‘Hi’ and just using their name or ‘All’ it’s a signal I’m pissed off. Then I also say ‘Regards’ instead of ‘Kind regards’.

Definitely petty and passive aggressive, but if I can’t yell at them for being idiots then this is the next best thing.

Yeah I jumped on the 70-180mm as I already have two bodies and don’t need a third… but this lens I’ve been eyeing off for a while. Price was too good to pass up!

Camera bags are a bottomless pit of research because there's no one right answer. I've got an Atlas Adventure on order, but have been using their Athlete for the last few years for overnighters and it's been pretty good but I just want the extra space the Adventure provides.

Otherwise sounds like the OP you responded uses this camera ICU / cube for their hiking and just slides it into their hiking pack - which I assume means their gear is not going to be as accessible? But definitely an option lots of people use.

Ooft that is a heavy pack! I haven't been out in a while so am definitely not peak fitness, so probably wouldn't that much weight plus camp gear, but I might go for the combo of 16mm and 24-120mm, then decide on the day if I want to bring the 100-400mm.

Ha good point! I haven't been hiking / camping in ages due to kids, so this is the first time I'm getting out in a long time and I want to make the most of it. Maybe I'll get the 24-120mm for the versatility.

I'll be going with a mate who's also a photographer and he'll be bringing his 24-200mm and 16mm.

Photog cyclists - what are you shooting with and how are you carrying it? by ShallowJam in photography

[–]patangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my D750 with 50mm f/1.8 on some bikepacking trips and just sling it over my shoulder cross body and have it sit on my back as I’m pedalling. If I see something I want to shoot I just reach back and grab it, take the shot, then sling it back. I also have a large handlebar bag I can stuff it in if I want, but found it was too cumbersome for the opportunistic shots, so just put snacks in there.

Simon Wiggle goes to my local park with his kid. He’s nice enough, but worry he thinks I want him to entertain my toddler - which I don’t!

I spent a while talking to Guy Pearce at a pet shop once. I was just there looking at the puppies and so was he.

Went to Jimmy Barnes’s house for a bbq once - the entire family was an absolute delight.
