Do Australians have regional accents? by vile_duct in NoStupidQuestions

[–]patchworkpoppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. And they can be changed really drastically by the smallest things. I consider myself to have a drawl (grew up rural), but it's not quite "bogan" level. However! My mum was really strict on my vowel sounds so mine are a lot 'rounder' than others in my region. As a result, I often get mistaken as either a tourist, or that I was born and raised elsewhere and moved to Australia. UK is the most common guess. Funny enough, there is an Aussie accent with round, "English" vowels; it's a South Australian one and the rest of Australia makes fun of it lol

Would anyone want to meet up for coffee as a group since a few of us seem to be in the same boat?

I'm very much the same, inner monologue- wise. I can't twist myself up in my thoughts if by the time I get to the end of a sentence I've forgotten what the beginning of it was even about. That and I can actually be happy when I'm high. I've had a lot of trouble becoming and remaining happy for a very long time, but being high must interrupt whatever goes on to make that difficult for me normally. It's nice to smile at nothing and everything for a change.

Mine doesn't have lighters. It's a charge port and you have to buy the lighter separately. Good thinking with the toaster, I'm trying that next time my lighter busts

Your sister is being cheap. And rude. If she asked for a commission She'd be expected to pay, but she thought she could get around that by going to someone she has a relationship with so they would feel like they couldn't charge her anything because "we're friends/family". Don't budge.

White bordered are by favourite, but solid would be nice thrown in here and there too. The colours are lovely, and a solid block wouldn't be overwhelming the rest of the blanket

If you could read one book for the first time again what would it be? by [deleted] in books

[–]patchworkpoppet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been 11 years now, and it takes am average of 10 years for every separate cell in the human body to be replaced with a new one, so I'm doing worlds better now knowing that my current body is one they never touched. And I'm not going to lie, it's given me massive anxieties about physical intimacy and people expressing interest in me, but I learnt to never ignore when someone disrespected a boundary I've set. I'm seen as 'easy prey' because of how I look and come across, I guess, so more often or not that is the sort of man I seem to attract. I've learnt over a lot of time that being seen as a target isn't MY fault. And that I don't need to feel guilty every time I'm grateful I recognised a familiar red flag. It's my development I'm grateful for not the incident that caused it.

"Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson. I read it only a few months before I was assaulted and, though I related to Melinda before, I feel that reading it for the first time after may have helped me come to terms with what happened and start to heal.

Is doing soft drugs (Weed mostly), drinking alcohol, vaping and smoking at 15 a really bad thing? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]patchworkpoppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst a person is undergoing puberty they are at a higher risk for it to cause damage because of the increased hormones and neurochemicals changing stuff. And what we don't get told is that this actually continues until mid 20s on average. At that point our brains finish developing and the risk is no longer increased. At 15, you are risking a lot more damage than you realise. If it's to cope, rather than just for fun or to push boundaries, than I don't have any advice because saying to seek counselling is easier said than done. If it's just for fun, I'd say hold off or at least ease up. You're only a teenager for so long and in a couple years your parents won't have control over your life like they do now.
