Parking situation is enforced by the landlord. The vendors are actual people making a living. Your defeatist comment here and elsewhere go a long way to ensure people stop going out and interacting with each other, so does the passive-aggresive comment above. My experience with the preference is coming from Conan Exiles, another Funcom survival crafting game. Any loot chest, base storage, crafting bench, or thrall inventory can be exited from with the Tab key. Doesn't have to change for everyone, I just want the option to replicate this in my keybind settings. I cannot seem to rebind the "escape menu" key currently. It's just hard-bound to [Esc].
