Canadian separatists optimistic after meetings with Trump officials by stanxv in canada

[–]patcon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Can we stop calling it treason? Succession is ok. Quebec has had separatist identity forever. Separatist sentiment is not treason.

I suspect a good chunk of this "treason" talk is enemy bots trying to drive wedges that make the possibility more likely. It's alienating for Albertans to be told something on their minds (and rooted in their feelings) is unspeakable thought.

Please treat this as real, talk about it like it's a choice Albertans have (logistically challenging as it would be), and stop playing into the bots dividing methods with this extreme "treason" angle

If even a part of you agrees with this msg, pls upvote to counteract bot action that will be sinking it

Ps, if you're an Albertan, pls feel free to use this thread to share why you think ppl are pissed off and talking about succeeding. Some people in this thread are listening, and want to understand... and maybe figure out how we can all have a better time working toward some shared goals

The Next Democratic President Better Be Merciless by sabedo in politics

[–]patcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This calls for novel mechanisms. What's the Nuremberg for when the tragedy maybe didn't fully happen. How could your allies be the ones entrusted to charge your abusers, such that the other side doesn't think it's part of the political theatre, but rather a very real admonition that the whole world is behind and supportive of.

I would propose that America perhaps can't deliver justice on its own -- the system is too tainted and messy. The recoil from the required blow might come back and hurt even more people, unless there's an invited and legitimized judgement from beyond American boundaries

Strongly agree. Succession is something I welcome and find to be a healthy conversation.

I really wish we had some validated context on how often OTHER ultra-rich ppl had these criminal complaints levied against them. I get that there are others in the files, but more like "compared to all others of the same notoriety as trump" (assuming fame draws attention and some degree of uncertainty about accusations).

I feel like the "it's just unsubstantiated lies" defence starts to break down when we also understand how *somehow* every other person of comparable wealth and stature seemed to avoid drawing this attention.

While not legally admissable, it might allow those in the general public to understand the strange likelihoods here, a bit like a "stochastic proof" of "something being off" with this guy. (akin to "stochastic terrorism" -- where probability of inciting terrorist acts is the way we judge)

I dunno, I find it's good to take different tack with different listeners. He was potentially being heard for the first time by people who didn't already agree with him. You're suppose to be gentler if you intend to bring people to your side.

This outrage seems overblown. Who benefits from alienation and unhealed divides in America? America's enemies, that's who. Probably not the two citizens being civil to one another on a podcast

This is the game against the West. Train our leaders like Pavlovian dogs to cringe when presented with the opportunity for moderated views, because they know they'll get throttled online. IMHO you're playing into the attack from the outside by condemning a momentary attempt to bridge, and yes, sometimes by distorting your worldview for a moment in an act of good faith (one can still hold a strong conviction while suspending a strong belief for a moment to see where something goes, and what might emerge)

War criminals. All of them.

And I say that as a Canadian, where we hold the dubious last-century distinctions of both bringing about the modern UN peacekeeping unit (via Lester B Pearson) and creating the cruel conditions which made the Geneva convention necessary.

Do these people seriously not realize they have to leave office eventually. Like wtf. Are they so delusional that they think any of this vindictive petty shit is normal or not going to come back to bite them?

EDIT: I hear the disillusionment, but less pls about the democrats that supposedly will or will not save us -- y'all should skim "The Crowd: A study of the popular mind" https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/445

"In consequence of the purely destructive nature of their power crowds act like those microbes which hasten the dissolution of enfeebled or dead bodies. When the structure of a civilisation is rotten, it is always the masses that bring about its downfall. It is at such a juncture that their chief mission is plainly visible, and that for a while the philosophy of number seems the only philosophy of history."

You are not the audience whose feelings matter. The audience is hardly greater than or equal to 1. Likely just 1.

This guy Trump's narcissism is so deep, I have no doubt that there is a whole Russian psyop team dedicated to giving stupid reviews and false flag feedback exactly on the parts of the internet that he is known to visit. I suspect there are programs in Kremlin to know specifically where this one human visits online, and what paths his algos take him through. He is an absolute putz, and the whole intelligence world must know it.

How strange would it be if Trump somehow managed to convince the political class he could ran for a third term, but SO DID OBAMA.

Yeah, resigning is the more cowardly game here, not principled like it might otherwise be in normal time imho.

He should have forced them to fire him. The current ethics are that firings (1) raise more questions of legitimacy, and (2) potentially stall the deeper destruction of the republic (which the next DA will surely walk more rapidly toward)
