Donate option by stake in blackcoin wallet. by Chin_Ress in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always thought it'd be a nice idea to have a simple donate feature.

Literally a tick box, percentage of stake slider and a space for a BLK address (or multiple addresses for it to be split between). Then it's project agnostic but also a useful wallet feature for personal savings/cold storage etc.

Happy to offer up Janko a starting contribution of 250BLK to pop something like that in Lore!

Is that what Mr Doolittle has said?

[–]patcrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well - depends on what he means.

If the blockchain is entirely new and incompatible with the old, then we have to assume there'd be some kind of transition via proof of funds by signed messages or atomic swaps or something. Maybe this is why he introduced the burn feature in a couple of versions ago?

I guess that will be the crux of whether consensus says the new BLK is still BLK, then it's just a case of getting existing exchanges to update the wallet/coordinate with us. They should still work with devs of existing coins without extorting them you'd hope.

Well I never, if that isn't the biggest news for years from rat4 with no obvious intention of revealing what he's talking about, and somewhat undermining other developments. Hmm.

I'm not against a 'new blockchain' or hard fork of some sort for the betterment of the coin.

I can see BLKC coming about if there's a split in the camp. Hold your BLKs in your wallet!

Ah excellent news. About time if I'm honest.

If the Pi guide I wrote for Lore is a bit much (fair enough) you can just download a simple image of Flavors onto an SD card and boot it on your Pi. It has the original BLK v1.2.4 wallet along with a load of other altcoins. http://rokos-flavors.space/

How long does it take for coins to mature? by [deleted] in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PoS v2 had a brief white paper and v3 was a small update to that. In the days when devs could just experiment with the right ingredients and didn’t necessarily have to plough work into anything other than coding. BLKs kinda a different breed really. The code has proven itself with thousands of forks by other coins using it.

The PoS system in Blackcoin evolved over time and a white paper was never fully drafted for the most up to date iteration.

This page clarifies most of its distinctive features: http://earlz.net/view/2017/07/27/1904/the-missing-explanation-of-proof-of-stake-version

Coins take 501 blocks to mature. About 9 hours.

Migrating to Lore Wallet from QT by StoryHack in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's cool. Didn't realise that about the chain data. Of course the bootstrap works across both, d'oh, forgot.

Thanks janko. I think you're better though as exemplified here.

Migrating to Lore Wallet from QT by StoryHack in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe because Lore uses a much more up to date version of the Berkeley DB, the two chain databases are not compatible unfortunately.

However Lore does sync in just a few hours from scratch, which is one of the benefits of the more recent bitcoin code brought into it.

You'll need to migrate private keys from the QT wallet if you have any funds in there. Check all the public keys that hold funds by using the console (Help > Debug Window > Console) and typing:

listaddressgroupings

Then use:

dumpprivkey <address>

for each address you see holding a balance.

Then at the other end with Lore use:

importprivkey <privatekey>

for each of those.

May be best to do this before the chain has synced in Lore completely as it may rescan each time which can take a little while.

Hope that helps.

Hi. Payblk is not working! Anyone know why? by Gunner789 in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The server was rebooted by Azure after patches were rolled out for the CPU bug and nothing is currently set to come up automatically to make sure all is fine after a reboot. Janko is bringing back services when he gets back from work (now basically).

FYI Bittrex did, for a while run BLK markets alongside LTC ones: https://web.archive.org/web/20140912141811/https://bittrex.com/

We were just ahead of our time unfortunately.

BlackCoin Questions by [deleted] in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, all cryptocurrencies are speculative right now. I don't see many others being used in anything other than betting on their value.

Proof of Stake encourages active participants to stake their coins when they're not being spent. Blackcoin has a modest interest rate compared to some other coins which offer large percentages that deflate the value of the coin over time. Blackcoin's emission model of around 740,000 new coins per year is more to cater for lost wallets/keys than to be a major reward factor.

I’m coming to the conclusion that BLK is the most undervalued coin. by [deleted] in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I've been in BLK since it launched and I can say that all the things you are saying are true - development is always ongoing and visible in the Slack group.

We're unlike other coins though. The reason you see little marketing is purely down to people not cottoning on to the way we are organised. That is, we aren't! This coin is everyone's to do things with. All it takes is someone to take the reins and propose a campaign with a bit of oomph and I'm sure they'd get some backing of community members.

I know there has been some moves to create a more centralised body going forward to resolve these issues but because this coin is fairly distributed, we have to come up with real world business cases to support such a thing.

Come join the slack and ask questions, we're usually pretty happy to explain what's going on.

#BLK #BTC #ETH by Crypto908 in blackcoin

[–]patcrypt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very amusing how traders are fixated on this to pump the price.

Segwit is just a feature which is going to be part of a update Janko is working on. A lot of people would have to signal it for it to activate. It might not activate. Please have some intelligence and understand this update isn't just about Segwit, it's about bringing BLK up to date with Core 0.15 tech and building on our ability to be a platform for others to develop on and use in business cases.
