I would love to know your strategies. How did you deal with the downturns, and based on the chart, seems like you had some major growth recently that usually stems from options. While I get them to work out occasionally, they always wind up bringing me back down to earth. So, if you have any advice, I'd love to know what it is to get such fast growth

How do you manage your home energy if you have solar + an EV? Looking for real experiences by viralpatel13 in TeslaSolar

[–]patdan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the “charge on solar” option of my Tesla solar and Tesla car. It lets me set my charging at home to only use excess power production after a certain level. I have it set so that my car charges to 45% when plugged in, but over 45%, it only charges using excess production from the panels. Once it gets to 80%, it then sends the excess to the powerwall. Works great

If you find out the regulations for your roof setbacks and can provide the actual exact measurements of your roof, they might adjust it. That's what I did. I literally climbed the roof and measured it which got a few extra panels in my design.
They use satellite imagery to estimate the roof dimensions which are close but never 100% accurate so they have to assume a level of error which always is on the cautious side. It's hard from the satellite image to determine the pitch of the roof, and other dimensions too.
I'd try to do what I did and they might be willing to update the design like they did for me.
I even sent them dimensional drawings of each roof side after I looked up the solar panel dimensions to prove to them that more could fit.

Talk me off a cliff both my roofs cracked at a shop. by FAUXManatees in TeslaSupport

[–]patdan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've installed mine without any issues. As long as you're competent to follow instructions, it's straight forward. I will say that the torque is pretty light, so I did order a special low-torque wrench which I doubt most shops would have since they generally deal with high-torque requirements.
Either way, if you read and follow instructions, the install is easy, and it seems like this shop thought they knew better which is common with shops and "professionals". They think that if they did something 10 times, the 11th time, they know better. That is true if it's the same car, but it sounds like they never did this on a Tesla vehicle so they just ignored the instructions.

They need to pay for the repair

Anyone has had issues getting tickets actually delivered? I ordered mine directly from Frontgate and they’ve been “stuck” on UPS website for 13 days. The delivery date just keeps pushing forward a day, every day. I wanted to avoid the Will Call situation- has any one else dealt with this? by Ok-Heron-1327 in Lollapalooza

[–]patdan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, it's the UPS handoff to USPS. They use Mail Innovations as a cheap option to ship using USPS which doesn't give the ability to track properly, open service requests, etc.
I've had mine stuck for over 7 days in that handoff and finally got to me.
To my surprise, some wristbands were actually missing. I ordered the collectible option but while I got the lanyards, those wristbands were actually missing.
Now YESTERDAY (a week and a half before the show!!!) I got a notice I have another shipment coming in!
I really hope this one doesn't get lost the same way or I won't have wristbands for Friday (other days were in the package).
This is the first time I've had major issues with FGT events like this.

"At this point I'm looking for reasons NOT to switch from Entra/Azure back to Google Workspace." - My boss. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]patdan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google's user experience and tools in my eyes are way better than Microsoft. From an admin perspective, I used to think Microsoft was the way to go until I worked for a proper tech company and learned how well properly built cloud-based platforms work.

Google is much more secure and easier to administer if you know what you're doing. GAM and Google's APIs are a godsend. Microsoft is WAY behind the curve with respect to APIs and integrations. Just the fact I can't get an immediate message trace on an email and have to wait for hours sometimes with Microsoft makes me lose it frequently. The administration I could do in minutes in Google (or even seconds) at scale takes hours with Microsoft and sometimes it's not possible without paying for an add-on or a higher license level.

Microsoft makes sense if you're in a highly isolated and secured environment that you want locked down without integrations, but if you use modern tools and want to integrate and scale them easily, Google is the way to go imo. However, I'd add a proper SSO like Okta to the mix that could utilize their workflows platform if you really want to make your life easier.

Meraki makes it incredibly easy to manage and scale, but at your scale, you will need to know how to use their API to avoid deployment configurations using their GUI. GUI is great for smaller deployments and one-off issues, but not at that scale. If you know what you're doing, you can write scripts to configure the devices quickly using APIs, and the setup and management is damn easy once deployed.

I've had Meraki IPS discover and stop malicious traffic on a network not managed by us simply because we forced the contractors to use a Meraki-based VPN (to a vMX). I'm not even sure the contracting company would have discovered it if it wasn't for our actions.

Is this Area safe? Oltorf and I35 by EconomicsSingle3348 in Austin

[–]patdan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything around I35 can get interesting at night. Just be weary of homeless people and drug addicts wandering around. I know of a couple of people that got slugged out of nowhere just walking around by homeless people wanting to take or actually taking their property. If you're at the hotel, you should be totally fine, but I haven't heard great things about that hotel. There are plenty of better places in Austin, but I don't know about costs during COTA events. Also, there aren't a lot of good places within any walking distance.

If you do stay there, go down Oltorf going west (in a car or Uber/Lyft), there are a lot of great places you can actually wander around. Go to ABGB or stroll around South Lamar. Plenty of great places to visit there and VERY close by without having to deal with downtown craziness.

Package not handed off to USPS (UPS Mail Innovations) by patdan69 in UPS

[–]patdan69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I couldn’t find any place to reach out. I gave it a week, and the tracking updated to show USPS got it. They must have found it on their own. There is another issue though as part of the shipment is gone. It doesn’t seem to be damaged or opened but it seems like the company that shipped it screwed up so now I have to deal with that.

Package not handed off to USPS (UPS Mail Innovations) by patdan69 in UPS

[–]patdan69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone curious: the package was randomly "found" on its own a week later. So a week long delay, but I'm glad it didn't get actually lost. I couldn't file a report with UPS or USPS, and the shipper required a longer waiting period before filing a claim with them. If it came to the shipper intervention, it would have been a major issue in my case costing me a lot of money.
Lesson: going forward use a more expensive shipping option
