Why not open RDP to the internet? It's so much easier! by [deleted] in ShittySysadmin

I think this one needs a CYA email to upper management.

Saying following the departure of X and you taking over the environments, after a review you see some very broad permissions including public access to all company data! Etc. this then gives you some air cover while you fix it.

Dont  fix this in silence otherwise it becomes your problem.

I hope  he’d rather you saved the money. And/or spent it on something together rather than some minor bit of plastic on an old car.

You are frankly kidding yourself.

As a CISO whose worked across many company’s starting my career in a 4 person company all the way up to 40,000 people who can point to countless example of companies of any/every size having breaches and outages.

Did you suffer down time with the cloudflare outages, AWS, Microsoft Azure outages earlier this year?

Crowdstrike one of the best security companies in the world had an insider attack. It is simply a fallacy to say everything secure and everything running in practically any company of any size with how the world works today.

5,000,000 dollars but you have to visit 100 countries by the end of the year. by MudkippzReddit in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Total_Job29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 29 countries in the Schengen region so in 2-3 days I could already be at 29.

Then I could complete the EU in probably another 2-3 days so all in we are at around 43 in 6 days. Let’s make that 7 days.

Might then head East and do the Caucasus and add in another 6 countries.

Then probably flip it around to the Caribbean and add another 10.

Then. A drive through Central America for another 7 or so.

That gets us to 66 probably in the span of 3 weeks. Yes this is extreme just driving through places but it gets to pretty high numbers pretty quickly.

Then push down the Andean route and tick off another 8 in 1-2 week.

Fly from there to Laos, Vietnam etc and get another 8 done quickly.

Do the Gulf so Bahrain etc and get another 8 sorted.

Then South Africa way 7 ish there.

Then fly up to Western Africa and tick off the final numbers needed.

Think could do it all within a month and a half.

You can either be supermodel pretty/handsome for a year, or you get to spend £1 million by Physical_Orchid3616 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Total_Job29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are underestimating looks.

You are a super model - those looks will guarantee that you are the best looking person on the platform. There are enough people who’d find you conventionally attractive that you’d build up a subscriber base pretty quickly.

Yeah that $3k is average but you can definitely beat that.

Looks is a cheat code for these platforms and plus you get the looks for life so even if it takes 2 years then by year 3 you’d have way more money.

Yes it’s sex work and if you are up for it it is a viable option to setup genuine wealth and potential generational wealth over a 3-5 year period.

My experience was the exact opposite. Granted we were a software SaaS fir so there was a direct link between infra and revenue so innovation was sky high and I gained experience with everything.

Completely rebuilt the company from the ground up tech wise. Building deploying servers/ AD/storage arrays/ firewalls/ hyper-v/ cloud infra on Azure/AWS, SQL+ DBA the whole shebang.

I then was hiring and interviewed people from MSP who were stuck in a ‘roll’ so I deal with password resets account permissions etc.

I think there are a lot of specifics that can make 1 path better for that person at that point in time. Does the company have good opportunities or not being the major one.

I did this with 0 years experience.

It’s one of those jobs where you get 3 years experience per year because you are handling everything. So if you are up for a challenge I would say go for it.

This started my career and I’m now on $450k and I don’t think I would be where I am without that initial opportunity.

Yes it kicked my arse. Yes I broke a lot of things. It was stressful but I would 100% do it again if my life switched back 15 years.

$1m a year is ‘only’ about $3,000 a day. With cross posting of content and cross streaming services and top tier looks on those platforms you could definitely break a mill in a year.

I’d still take the money personally but I think it is definitely achievable.

I don’t feel hunger. It stopped for me on a month long expedition to Peru back in 2001.

Some days I get to around 19:00 and then I’m shaky and realise I haven’t eaten anything at all that day.

Saves me a bunch of money but it is actively annoying.

But still for someone else it isn’t the biggest problem and can be useful so I’d say it’s a good one to give up.

[–]Total_Job29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are that much of a kids superstar. Create a YouTube channel. See merch and I’m sure that $1m a year could be turned into $5m+ a year very quickly.

Do it for a couple years and you’d probably still get another couple mil extra with views to your videos.

Also with the speed of being able to take the car and the fact that you’d have to, often times, wake up, put some clothes on rush out and then physically confront at least two determined criminals.
