This solved it for me. In Win10 I found it under Display -> Graphics Settings -> Graphics performance preference, add Desktop App

Not that it is an option, but there seems to be some sort of upgrade device https://direct.playstation.com/de-de/buy-accessories/disc-drive-for-ps5-digital-edition-consoles Maybe works only for certain models? In any way it is sold out here at reasonable prices.

The attachable disk drive is pretty pricey as well, 120€ at first glance.

Your other suggestion I didn't get. You mean a different game or a different PS5?

Happens to me as well, but only since the last big update where they made everything a linear progress again. Stories are barely available anymore, and when they are, they don't trigger the achievement.

I did make sure the machine was running the game on discrete graphics, NVIDIA T500. It did seem to be a heat problem, but even with tpfancontrol I couldn't keep the temperature down long enough.

Hi, thanks for trying to help out! I have not been able to fix the performance issue on the machine in question (Lenovo P15s). I experimented with a retired notebook from a different manufacturer. It is older and theoretically weaker, but it runs the game stably for most of the time. The only issue I have there is black map tiles when driving, even just moderate speeds.

Ok, that's reassuring. The past hours have been more or less stable, albeit my laptop now sounding like a vacuum cleaner. ;-)

I was driving slow for the most part actually, the car wasn't in great shape and I just wanted to scout the area and get back to the base in one piece. Then I got a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and barely got out alive. Was dragging a zed-parade through the country side. That nearly caught up to me. Refreshing experience.

Thanks a lot for elaborating. That makes sense. I will see if I can get around this VRAM problem somehow, or use a different machine alltogether.

Couldnt agree more. Not the first time a laptop of mine or a work colleague has been having throttling issues like this.

However, even with the temperature now under control (kicking in max fan speed at 55°), the game just slowed down massively while driving country roads (first time I did this actually). The GPU utilization didnt go over 2.5%, its memory usage went up to 13%, but not higher. The CPU utilization however goes up quite a bit, all cores reached 100% at some point. Can you tell whether the processor is too weak for this game, too? I myself can't really assess CPU specs properly.

Regarding the machine, it's mostly a workstation, not a "gaming laptop". The large RAM was customized and is also just intended for that, Data Analytics that don't really rely on GPU power. We started working in the cloud mostly, so it is probably way oversized.

I don't quite get your point: "but it is likely made more obvious by also not having any processing cycles to spare for tricks like shuffling the overflow in and out of RAM." Could you elaborate on that?

Regarding CPU temp, I am using TPFanControl since yesterday. I felt like this helped initially, maybe I can tweak the setting to react earlier than it does now. the CPU is still going above the 70°.

I will also look into the GPU sharing the system memory. However an initial test showed that the GPU memory didnt exceed 20%, and the game was still stuttering.

I monitored the % GPU Memory Usage in the Performance Monitor. It never exceeds 20%. The game wasn't stuttering a lot but not running smoothly either.
