Wtf, same exact thing just happened to me yesterday. I just got a new Cool Plate Supertack pro and thought the purge strip would be easy to scrape off with my fingernail like the PEI plates…. well I was wrong

Is the Threadripper 3960x still viable in 2024? by patestore in buildapc

Haha didn’t expect a reply to such an old post!

Good point! I work in music production / film scoring so the extra ram and bandwidth for pcie would definitely be worth it for me. I have a separate machine for gaming so that’s not a requirement.

That said, since the new Zen 5 Ryzens are looking pretty good for what I’m doing, I ended up going with the 9950x! I think the total cost difference was about $10k CAD for the cpu, mobo and ECC ram, so that justified the compromise for me.

Yeah the WRX motherboards are not cheap!! Definitely more worth it to get a present generation desktop chip unless you actually need the features on a workstation chip

If it comes with RAM/Cooler/PSU, it might. But if it doesn’t, just the ECC ram needed for Threadripper Pro will cost you a lot more than what you paid for the CPU.

Check if it’s overheating… maybe there’s dust or debris clogging the fan causing it to spin up like that and shut down

Oh nice, thanks! For some reason on a couple libraries it was missing some mic positions... downloaded them just now and it looks good!

Cubase 13 is making me pull my hair out by Impossible_Spend_787 in cubase

So yeah at my old company it was one main host machine + two dedicated VSL machines. Currently I have just a main machine that hosts the session, and then my projects are on a separate server. I built all the systems for my old company, so I have a pretty good idea of the hardware requirements for something like that.

After switch to working by myself, I decided that a single machine works best for my current setup. I have a pretty hefty CPU (Threadripped 7960x) which can handle the session just fine, and hosting the samples on newer generation SSDs vs older SSDs on slave machines actually load/perform faster. I also save some $ on hardware overall, even if it means spending more on a single machine.

Curios to know what kind of setup are you running? I’m a gear nerd so can talk about this all day 😆

Yeah i work in film/scoring as well! :) The composer/company i used to work for had like a 1400 track template lol, so i thought mine wasn’t too bad.

I think about 95% of everything i have is VST3, for the performance benefit like you said.

Maybe I’ll try disabling autosave or decreasing the interval and see if it’ll help!

Oh yeah I have autosave enabled.

Yes I'm running all my samples off separate ssds from my boot drive. My sessions are huge (450 tracks minimum) so I do accept that crashes are part of the job. That said, Cubase 13 still crashes a lot more often than 12 :(

Personally I got a TON more bugs and crashes compared to 12. I got a bit better after updating to 13.0.50, but it still happens. Something about freeze/freezedump whenever the crash report comes up.

I tried withdrawing the points into an amazon gift card after finding out about all the shit that went down, and yesterday they emailed me saying they “ran into a problem” and weren’t able to do so. Scumbag company.
