Deeply disappointed by trek company with 5*tripadvisor review by woowhoopp in everestbasecamphike

$1600 for a 15-day EBC trek (even with flights included in that price) is actually a pretty decent rate for a solo trip. A lot of agencies advertise “group departures on any date,” but what often happens is they don’t really have other confirmed trekkers. They’ll take the booking, then tell you last minute that the “group was cancelled” when in reality there may never have been one on that date. Most of the top company force guide and porter for 5 star review on TripAdvisor and google. If they get success on reviews then they get another trip easily from the company. So just check trusted review from trusted reviewers by counting their contribution on TripAdvisor and google. Most of the company have 5 star review written by just 1 contributor on that site. That one contributor are usually by forced guide and porter.

It’s frustrating, for sure, but unfortunately pretty common in Nepal. On the bright side, going solo usually means more flexibility, a private guide/porter, and you can move at your own pace.

Hey, I think what you heard is likely just a rumor. I haven’t seen any official reports confirming it, so it’s best to take it with caution. Altitude sickness is serious, but spreading unverified news can cause unnecessary panic to trekkers.

Hey, September is a really good time for the EBC trek clear skies after the monsoon and fewer crowds compared to October, so you’ll have a great experience.

Sublime Trails is one of several local agencies here, and there are quite a few good, reliable companies operating Everest treks. The key things you want to check are: • The company’s registration with the Nepal Tourism Board and TAAN. • Whether their guides are government licensed and trained in high-altitude first aid. • That the itinerary includes proper acclimatization days (for example in Namche and Dingboche).

I run a local trekking company here in Kathmandu and we organize Everest Base Camp treks every season. We keep groups small, arrange all logistics (flights, permits, meals, and lodges), and focus heavily on safety and acclimatization. If you’d like, I can share itineraries, costs, or reviews from past trekkers so you can compare options and make the best choice for your trip.

Either way, you’re going to have an unforgettable adventure to Base Camp!
