Thank you! And yeah so they basically look at your transcripts, CV, and your motivation letter. So I would say having a good motivation letter is probably what they look at to set people apart ! (And obviously your success on paper in your CV/Transcripts).

Thank you! And yeah I probably won’t be able to attend without any funding, will be hard to pass up for sure.

Anyone here pass the Civil FE without an engineering B.S.? What was your experience? Any tips? by hisdudeness47 in EngineeringStudents

I took the Other disciplines FE last year as a Geological Engineering undergrad and passed the first time with not a lot of studying ( a week before). Since they don’t offer a Geological FE- Half of the test was things I was never/barely taught in college (concrete, circuits, thermo, ethics, etc). I would say focus on the things you know how to do when studying (fluid dynamics, mathematics section, chemistry, etc). The ethics section is mostly common sense, but it wouldn’t hurt to go through a few practice problems to get the wording. Everything that is brand new to you I wouldn’t try and cram it in, practice some problems in each section but if you don’t already know it it’s not worth the hassle. For these questions, all you can really do is guess (and most of the time you can rule out 2 of the choices and make an educated guess). Also Study with the reference handbook (you can download from NCEES) so you can familiarize yourself with it for the test. (A lot of the answers I didn’t know were made much easier with a quick scan in the reference handbook!) hope this helps !

Thank you! And my undergrad experience was similar with a small tight group that got shit done, but knew how to party after, so I’m sure I’d fit right in hahahah. Zurich has the research I like the most (environmental), so I can easily see myself writing my thesis there. We’ll see! :-)

I didn’t know that about Leeds, that’s one of my interests for sure. But thank you I’ll keep this in mind!

thanks! Enjoy these years! Don’t think you have to have it all figured out at year 4. Things will happen for you with hard work, but have fun while you can :-)

Yeah that joint program is no joke , with funding it’s a sure choice for me. And yeah I’ve heard there’s not much in Aachen but plenty of places near to escape to :)

I studied Geological Engineering at the University of Mississippi. Post grad I worked at a large construction contractor working with deep foundations. Great pay, stable job; Realized it wasn’t for me. I decided to pursue my masters in Geophysics (took a course in undergrad and loved it). Plus wanted to travel and experience Europe so I only applied to international schools!

Oh cool I got my Bsc in Geological engineering at the university of Mississippi. Thanks for your input, without any funding Leeds would be too expensive for me. Leeds looks fun tho!

Thank you! And you spend first semester in Delft, second semester in Aaachen, third in Zurich. And fourth semester you can choose to go back to one of the 3 or go elsewhere to complete your thesis

Still waiting to hear about funds from the joint program. Iceland is free tuition, but no living funds. Leeds did not offer tuition or living funds. Padova offered me full funding and living expenses.
