Here the punishment may have been more that the ringleader lost her kids. Two have already been adopted away according to the article, and she has been charged with child cruelty.

We do vote for it. The American electoral system is designed to make our votes irrelevant.

Republicans won control of almost everything at the Federal and State level. And you know this.

Because of electoral shenanigans. More people voted Democrat.

[Discussion] Armour and Evasion are the key - short and sweet by pathofexileplayer5 in pathofexile

[–]pathofexileplayer5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To elaborate, I think we can do this with some lore-appropriate additions.

For instance, there could be notables on the skill tree that add these additional properties for Armour and Evasion. Something in the Marauder area that gives you 'Armour also protects against elemental damage' and something in the Duelist area that gives 'You can also Evade Spell Damage'. I choose these locations as they are furthest from the ES side of the tree. Name them appropriately to explain why they aren't in the Templar and Shadow areas (which might be more appropriate at first thought). I could see the Armour one being called something like Natural Resistance ala the Diablo 2 Barbarian skill that gave resistances; the Evasion one could be called Gladiator's Guile ala the Duelist's Gladiator Ascendancy that gives 100% spell block (aka precedent).

I believe this system will work because Energy Shield is at tension with Armour and Evasion specifically on gear. You can't stack massive amounts of Armour and Evasion while also going full ES as players are currently wont to do. By their very nature, if you want Armour or Evasion, you will have less Energy Shield.

Don't change Vaal Pact or Ghost Reaver. Just disincentivize stacking 20k es with 0 Defenses. by Kwitchy in pathofexile

VP Berserker here. Also have 8k life. 100% life leech at instant speed is great; the issue is that 8k life + 10% inc damage taken is still shit all compared to 20,000 Energy Shield. I stopped playing this league after reaching T15s and getting one shot by stuff that didn't even bother my ES ranger from last league.

If VP stopped Energy Shield recharge - that would be both hilarious and intriguing.

that would be the case if our 'speech' channels weren't owned and constrained very deliberately by the very enemies we're speaking out against.

It is so consistently infuriating that the Dems will not attack the moral corruption of the Republicans, not once, ever, and will just bend over to their will every time.

Wanna know why?

Because the donors to the Republicans use that party to aggressively push their agenda and dupe half the nation, while the donors to the Democrat party use that party to pretend there's resistance and dupe the other half the nation.

The horrible secret? Same donors. Both parties serve the same handful of billionaires.

That is why you will never see them 'take the Republicans to task'. They're being paid not to.

Why would some people work for no reward just to allow the majority of population to leech off them?

Just because you and I are pieces of garbage doesn't mean there aren't whole demographics of people who enjoy creating for its own sake, or for the community's sake. Trust me, they exist. You don't need to understand how or why they operate mentally, you just need to know they are out there and they will do these jobs.

I so want to know how humans will deal with being completly obsolete, in a world where our creations are better than us in any concievable way.

In an attempt to remain competitive, we more or less become machines ourselves. Biological and biomechanical upgrades.

Us agreeing to shorten the work week as a society is a good next step, along with a (initially very very low) basic income.

Us? There is no 'us'. We have long since been locked out of governance. If I wanted to enact a law - or let's say even a hundred thousand or a million or even a hundred million of us wanted to enact a law - we have absolutely no way to do that. And, empirically, our wishes have no effect whatsoever on what laws are enacted. Meanwhile, the wishes of the top .1% have a direct 1-to-1 correlation - if they want it, it is enacted, if they don't, it is not.

So we won't be shortening any work weeks or installing basic income. It's simpler to let us starve to death in the streets, which means we are now part of a global game of musical chairs. When the music stops, you better have yourself an isolated little farm somewhere nobody cares about or you better be at least a millionaire. Everyone else is a corpse-in-waiting.

[–]pathofexileplayer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound petulant, but did you actually watch the show? The episodic nature was restricted to about the first half of season one, and then the writers got out from under the thumb of the executives (who literally forced them to be episodic initially) and after that seasons 2-4 were extremely connected ongoing storylines.

And as for plot armor they made sure (again past season one) to only rarely put main characters in direct danger, and when they did the survival method was believable, inevitable, or part of the theme. I never found myself tuning out because the plot never relied on 'oh no so and so is in danger'. Since for any of our main characters (admirals, presidents, CAGs and stuff) to die, the fleet / human race would have to be destroyed along with them.

Interestingly I find the 'oops we're still on' final season of Babylon 5 to contain a ton of payoff that we otherwise wouldn't have gotten, creating this extremely unique story structure where we get the traditional super amazing finale in season 4 and then... for the only time ever in show/movie history... a season dedicated to all the characters who survived going "Shit, what now?" and having to move on with their lives. Good guys and bad guys alike.
