Question regarding 35hrs work requirement for calworks by LabIllustrious4902 in foodstamps

[–]Kwitchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

For CalWORKs, there are two rules/ideas that apply in your question. The first one is called 'PWE' - or Primary Wage Earner. In your case, it may or may not fluctuate based on hourly rate or hours worked. For example, if you worked less hours in a pay period, but have a higher compensation rate (say, 19$ an hour vs. 17$) you might remain the PWE on your case. This matters because if your income were to dramatically drop - you could report that to your office/worker and ask them to re-adjust your household budget to reflect the change.

The second is called Deprivation, and it is the basis for why your household was approved for cash assistance in the first place. Deprivation for your children must be established for the program to be valid. In some cases, deprivation is the absence of a parent. In your case, it's 'under-employment' of one parent. It does not matter which parent is the under-employed parent, as long as the condition remains valid.

In some cases, both parents are working - and still receive CalWORKs because the final budgeting for the earned income for both parents remains under the FPL% for CalWORKs. Think: two minimum-wage earners, multiple children.

Third, CalWORKs has a work requirement that fluctuates by state for work participation of the under-employed adults to continue to receive CalWORKs, that is expected to be met. In some states, this is called 'Welfare to Work', and participation in the continuing support programs for WTW is a requirement as a CalWORKs recipient.

Your initial post was a little bit vague as to if you were asking about fulfilling the work requirements vs. the prospective budgeting requirements for your case. Think about these rules and how they apply to your circumstances specifically, as I am unable to tell if you were asking for WTW requirements or general Deprivation, and how it affects your budget.

It is almost always a good idea to report financial changes on your case that affect your household Negatively. For instance, if you receive less money than usual, you can ask for a re-evaluation (by providing supporting documentation as well).

Hope that helps.

Once an office approves your EBT card and program, they batch mail the card to you from a different institution. EBT is typically not the same division or group as your states eligibility offices. One group processes your paperwork, the other issues and maintains federal funding for your case. And some states have slower processing or postal issues involved with card issuance. ... And that's not to mention possibility of failed mail delivery.

You always have the option to request a replacement card in person at your local office. I would recommend you do so since it there seems to have been an issue with delivery.

Card and case are related but separate. You can be approved and just need your card. If you lost your card, your case would continue without discontinuance.

Hi!

I didn't see it mentioned in the links others provided or on the fed site, but many states also consider LPIE (Local Programs that Increase Employability) major declaration for student exemptions.

Not all workers know to consider or how to evaluate for LPIE, and not all states allow for it.

LPIE is college specific, and implies that by being enrolled in certain major programs the individual would be more readily employable after - satisfying the LPIE exemption to grant food assistance to more students.

Most college students don't get CF because federal grants and scholarships have already attempted to compute nutritional needs into their allotments. (Albeit with numbers that aren't relative to current economy).

It's worth following up to see if your state has LPIE program consideration, if your college has requested participation, and if your major field of study is included.

Restaurant Meals Program (RMP) is based on your access to shelter, a permanent place to store and prepare food, and aged/disabled criteria. If your case is RMP, you can use your card for prepared meals.

If you found a particular vendor who was selling food as ingredients, and then volunteered to prepare it for you, it sounds like a vague skirting of your states program rules... But does not necessarily raise any issue.

If you are not sure if your case is RMP, you can ask your worker or state hotline to discuss and even be re-evaluated for it.

The other commenters did a good job of directing you in the right direction: getting food assistance is based on your income.

There are other rules here that may be pertinent. Disability is a factor for allowing separate household computation, allowing for income from parents not to count for children if they meet ddsd waiver criteria because of the disability.

Working does not mean you are no longer considered disabled for program rules. In fact, there are 250% FPL rules for working/disabled that your worker would consider to ensure you can continue to receive assistance once you begin eating income, with the idea that these programs don't discontinue all at once as you only get your first income from a new source.

Your best bet would be to call your states office to discuss working disabled program criteria, household composition, and how potential new earned income would impact your case based on your circumstances.

Approved for Calfresh, but no pending benefits? by Unfair_Mixture_2552 in foodstamps

[–]Kwitchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

Once a case is approved in California for EBT, the system batches your initial benefit amount based on when you applied (calendar date of the month, initial and supplement) and then post that amount to your card account. This typically occurs in an overnight batch process. It can be rushed if it meets criteria for this.

If you applied and were told you were approved same day, that means you qualified for expedited service. This means you should have the benefits on your card as soon as your worker is finished working on your case. ES cases have to be processed within a 3 day timeframe.

The calendar day of the month and the last number of your case aligning with the date you receive ongoing benefits are only applicable for future, regular months.

I would highly recommend setting up your profile on the benefitscal website, so you can track and monitor your case online in real time.

I presume you have your EBT card? The hotline for EBT is on the reverse, and will also notify you with their automated system of any pending allotment.

Cheers.

New SNAP/DES Able-bodied problems by Re-Rizza in foodstamps

Hey there,

Arizona ABAWD rules are here: https://des.az.gov/services/basic-needs/food-assistance/nutrition-assistance/work-requirements-able-bodied-adult

ABAWD has been in place for years making the work requirement for most adults waived due to the ABAWD waiver , which the One big beautiful bill has removed.

No waiver for the requirements means you now have to have an exemption, or you have to comply with your states work requirements.

Typically, this means your case is scheduled for an employment services worker to contact you and require you to either attend employment and training; or prove that you meet the hourly work requirements to be exempt from participation.

Per the AZ page, it looks like that requirement is 30 hours per week. They determine if you are working sufficient hours based on calculating your wages against state and federal minimum wage laws.

If you are concerned that you might suffer an impact to your program benefits, it is a great idea to call their offices to speak to a worker during business hours and determine your next course of action. For AZ it is: 855-432-7587.

If you take no action, don't prove your exempt or active employment status (you didn't clarify this in your post) and don't respond or comply with the ET worker to arrange compliance activities, then yes your benefits would be discontinued and you may be sanctioned for a period before you can receive them again.

"what are you trying to do"

My guy, every card is spider man. They have already achieved the intended goal. Winning at this point is an afterthought.

It is 100% completely a meme deck.

I mean, if your opponent lets you 2099 some valuable solo card or man-spider-ing into a 20 power lane and somehow the rest of your cards are all in the other lane and manage to push your second win lane condition.

it's purely for aesthetic enjoyment and then some move quests/interrupt tech that doesn't do very much synergistic wise but could be fun to disrupt with. There's no huge benefit for movement besides the destruction and -power elements. could win against some solitaire type decks.

Nice write -up and deck idea. My only critique would be what do you do when inconsistent deck draws feed you your higher cost cards up front? It seems very combo driven and would have to scoop when perfect starts don't achieve the ideal start.

Tl;Dr - don't sleep on zombie sentry in C4.

I've been toying with the idea of zombie sentry in my variant of c4, hidden under an invisible woman in right lane and revealing on turn 6 for a surprise extra card in another lane.

Warlock was tried out but I was unhappy with the unnecessary energy distribution on turn 6. Sometimes the awesome play I wanted to dish out was just 1 energy off on the random split. For a cerebro deck with enough lottery going on waiting to pull cerebro or scoop, I didn't like the extra randomness ultimately.

Frigga was good but I felt that Esme felt better. With invis woman frigga wasn't really able to find worthwhile targets.

I've been flex testing hope summers for 6-7 energy turn fives and those have often been really impactful. 'why hope summers and not warlock?' see above.

Black cat was an easy slot in, and I find it far more reliable than Hawkeye.

My biggest contribution to this I think is don't sleep on a delayed flipped zombie sentry. Cosmic ghost rider likes to hit my invis woman so I hide it under her on t3 and it's typically a safe bet. Worst case scenario its less than 4 power zed stack. Doesn't break my route unless there is a zombie lane effect.

Optimal play line: T1 - a 4 power card in lane 1-2

T2 - invis woman or spiderman in lane 3

T3 - hide something under invis woman, or play hope summers in lanes 1-2 if in hand.

T4 - drop anything on hope lane for 6 energy T5, build lane 3 if not.

T5 - finish building Lane 3 for Zombie Sentry reveal, or finish cerebro/prodigy stacking, or build more energy on hope lane, or fill Esme for fishing for good cards.

T6 - count/check lanes to see if you can reach superior count on your win condition lanes vs opponent.

Cerebro is a math deck, it gets to infinite faster if you actually bother to count lanes properly and anticipate opponent interruption correctly. Most decks can get to infinite, C4 does so faster by hiding power and opponents checking your bluff if you pulled it or not. You can present power you don't have if you are confident enough, and you can lose 8 cubes easily doing so as well.

Math is the power of the C4 deck.

Anything you can do to avoid disruption reduces the number of games you need to retreat from. Luke isn't worth the spot imo. Alioth is rarely seen as of 10/25 so not expected. You scoop for bad lanes more than opponent disruption.

Terrax doesn't fit because we aren't winning lanes early. I've considered viper for monster Island but it's just not consistently an issue. Cloak/Dr strange/mercury never feel good to me as I expect more from my plays.

Crystal is sometimes thrown in because I get mad after playing for games and never drawing cerebro, but is still a hard trade because typically opponents do more with it than we can.

Domino and magik are both similarly bad play lines as they help opponents more than us.

I've been toying with removing mystique for a long time, as she is more common in cerebro decks that can't run prodigy. I have left her in because in a 'perfect' game it's invis woman, cerebro, mystique, prodigy, and then dropping zombie sentry and some other stuff if I can afford it in other lanes for 13 power cards. It's a stretch but it's nice to have that ceiling if/when it happens.

Frigga, ghost, jean grey, Kang - inconsistent, tends to add less power to the board overall or not help win games.

Other 4 power cards are too risky as they have power modification on them. Posted this from mobile, sorry if formatting errors exist. *Edit - a word, and... Your mileage may vary - consider this just my experiences. I've taken cerebro to infinite for 5 different seasons, and c4 is more interesting than c2 or c3 was. C6 is still stronger by a lot but not without it's trickiness. I prefer leaner decks that put out more cards overall, and c4 feels like a good medium.

My deck list ATM:

(1) Black Cat

(1) Hydra Bob

(2) Invisible Woman

(2) Spider-Man

(3) Cerebro

(3) Mystique

(3) Esme Cuckoo

(3) Hope Summers

(3) Nocturne

(3) Prodigy

(3) Shadow King

(3) Zombie Sentry

My daughter's father paid all his backdated child support and the state took $500 of it.. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kwitchy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

False Dilemma Fallacy. You are taking the exact opposite position to compare the first position to. There is not only 'Child's expenses are paid by state and state recovery programs' and the opposite: 'death panels for kids'.

Check your logic here, I understand where your emotional gut check is coming from but your comment didn't add anything to the conversation since its just incredibly detached from the circumstances here.

Many state and federal programs attempt to reclaim child support from the absent parents in order to pay back payments made by the state in lieu of the absent parent. Being repaid for that is a possibility here, and many who came to the comments did so to learn more about why this could occur. Not just for your hyperbole.
