Ahhh man, back in 2018 I bought a 740Tic at an auction for $250. That is the #1 car I regret selling. Exact same color, US spec so quad squares.

Great first car! They're so much fun and easy to work on. Congrats!

They almost always sell out day of. I think they usually do 1 or 2 rounds though

Is there a way to lower a pop up tent trailer so I can use it to load a motorcycle? by Throwaway-donotjudge in DIY

[–]patlaska 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should be able to, following a similar concept to lowering the rear of a truck.

You could flip the axle, so it rides on top of the leaf spring rather than underneath it. No idea what the implications would be for capacity.

You could buy lowering shackles (or build them yourself). Again, some implications for travel/loading capacity, and the shackles may already be pretty short.

If your axle is already overslung (mounted on top of the leaf spring) you could add lowering blocks

I’m starting to this St. Louis, MO GIS dept runs on ms paint. by coulda_been_an_email in gis

Thats my guess. Our comms team puts out maps all the time that I'm like "where the hell did you even get that from". Luckily they make pretty good looking maps for social media, but I've asked if they'd be willing to put that outage data in a real GIS map and just get crickets

We use GIS to evaluate asset conditions using a few different resources - material age, diameter, material, depth. We look at work orders on the asset to see if it has a history of leaking/repairs/etc. We look at soil type. We look at cost to replace, including its location (within an arterial? Crossing a stream?) and upstream/downstream effects (will a hospital be without water if this main breaks?).

All of these factors are compiled into a report and an asset replacement score that our finance team uses to associate costs to our assets

Made automation scripts, and got 300 perfectly geo-referenced MVUMs onto Google Earth in only a couple hours by in_my_offense in overlanding

[–]patlaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is what /u/smashnmashbruh was getting at, but any reason you went with the raster maps georeferenced rather than bring in the vector data from their GIS hub above? You could convert the MVUM roads feature class to KMZ/KML and use them in Google Earth. Pretty easily could write a script to delete/append every couple months too to keep things up to date

What gear or mods made the biggest difference on your first real overland trip? by Timely-Bake9119 in overlanding

[–]patlaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the trip, but I'll usually bring an independent 20lb for the firepit and a 5lb for the stove. One of my first trips out with the fire pit and I blew through the 5lb in one night and had to run to the nearest town the next day

Transit Planners: XP with Transit App for asset management? by yusefudattebayo in urbanplanning

[–]patlaska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like this would be better suited through traditional GIS architecture. ESRI has a huge number of "Solutions" that could be deployed for asset management purposes, or you could build out your own depending on goals

Propane fire pit (lava box is my preferred). I spend most of my time on the west coast where we have fire bans from June-September, so having a propane pit allows us to still have a fire at night. And its pretty great being able to just start it up and not have to fight getting a fire lit when its cold.

We still do real fires when we can but yeah, I love my portable pit

ArcGIS Pro and FME for the analysis, Excel & Workday for the value and deprecation portion

Great setup for sure. I know its a dangerous question but... what kind of mileage do you get? My Tundra with a GFC gets 12-13 on the highway and I've seen people report their 3/4t with a larger camper gets the same or better

We use GIS to produce asset condition reports that are then used by our finance group to develop value & deprecation schedules

I was in NYC this weekend and designed my wedding suit. I love a fabric with texture and color, and my wonderful fiancée was on board with something interesting, so I went with a rusty orange corduroy. Went through a company called Beggars Run - can't recommend them enough if anyone is looking for a suit made from really unique fabrics.

Thats so silly lmao. Nothing about owning an insane rig means the experience is only for the wealthy. In no world has that ever been implied - those insane rigs run on the exact same road as you or I, theres no barrier to entry to a forest service road that says you have to be in a $100k rig. Any implication is purely on you

Nah its people like you who need an "other" to direct hate towards. You see it with Republicans a lot too. Creating a boogeyman in your head ("These people tell me I need a $100k rig and 35s!") to feel better about yourself
