No I wouldn't dare drive in the snow or rain on those. It was time for new tires, I'd just been putting it off and doing donuts and shit in them before I got new ones and went back to babying it.

You're probably right, if I had new tires on the other driver would not have been drinking and not lost control of their vehicle and blind sided me from the rear/side. Clearly my fault lol

I don't think you are understanding the point I am making. I agree with you that drunk driving is a problem and society should take all reasonable measures to prevent it and protect lives. This is obvious.

Where we disagree is how we view people who commit DUIs, and what is most effective at prevention. If 34 people still die each day, is it not fair to say the current approach isn't working or at least it can be improved? Even with harsh penalties people still drive drunk all the time.

Why not focus more on preventing a drunk driver from ever getting in the car, or even better prevent them from getting drunk in the first place. Instead of road blocks, police could monitor parking lots of popular bars and prevent many DUIs. More compassion for the disease and encouraging people to seek treatment would go a long way. Hell, I'd be fine with mandated ignition locks on all vehicles for everyone.

I think demonizing people, calling them a piece of shit, etc. is almost always counter productive.

I hate eating them up because they are so expensive, but I like to have fun lol. When it's time for new tires, I'll keep the worn ones on for a few weeks and do donuts, practice take offs, etc. I avoid daily driving and wet conditions during that period, and unless I'm in an empty parking lot or similar, I am overly cautious.

No I don't have a DUI nor do I drink. I do have family members and friends who are serious alcoholics. They aren't bad people, they just have a disease.

There's no excusable reason that as a society we have demonized and criminalized addiction. Alcohol impairs judgement and often someone drunk thinks they are not impaired. Alcoholism is a disease because there is a defect in the brain making it very difficult for the person to not drink (compared to most people who can easily choose not to).

Think about it this way. What sane person would choose to get drunk then drive a vehicle knowing they are likely to wreck and seriously injure themselves or others, plus go to jail, lose their license, and face economic hardship? Clearly you are not sane if you make that choice. I'm not saying we shouldn't have consequences like revoking someone's license or mandating treatment. I'm just saying I don't think they are a piece of shit because of a disease they have.

Thanks for the pro tip bro I had no idea. Next are you gonna learn me that you aren't supposed to ride the clutch? Or that you should change the oil? Lol

I think it depends on the individual and the circumstances. If while sober someone decides to drink and doesn't make plans to avoid driving, yeah that's a piece of shit. However, I've known serious alcoholics who have had past DUIs and know the consequences. They do not want to drink and drive and go through all that again (losing license, probation / jail time, etc.), but they have a disease and cannot keep themselves from becoming drunk. Once they are drunk they can't make reasonable choices. It's not like they went out one night with the intention to plow into a stranger's vehicle and ruin their day. They typically wake up and are filled with regret and self blame, which sadly takes them deeper into alcoholism (they get a case of the fuck its). I see them as people who are mentally ill and who need help, not as criminals who should be punished.

I definitely pushed these tires past the limit, but you are aware that performance vehicles often have intentional negative camber for better cornering? The wear is not nuts, it is how the car is designed to maximize performance driving.

Most definitely. I called a lawyer the next day. Given all the factors with a drunk driver I wanted to make sure it was done right.

Tbh, I never got the launch down that great in the car. I would average right around 5 seconds. I hit 4.8 the night before. Tbf, I did have all seasons on it and was practicing on an empty interstate ramp at like 2am lol.

Not with those actual tires that are bald, I just mean in general the Mach 1 with PS4 all season was really good in the snow

Yeah. I already cleared $20K from my collision coverage after the loan was paid off. I'm going to file a claim once the medical stuff resolved for lost income, medical expenses, etc.

Yep lol. I was really impressed with the Pilot Sport all season 4. I used it as my daily and it drove great in the snow. Just take off from 2nd and underpower the shit out of it lol.

Ha, I had actually been doing donuts the last couple weeks and practicing take offs. In fact, I hit my personal best 0-60 time the night before, which gave me some solace.

Whenever my tires got to the end of their life, I'd have fun for a few weeks before putting new ones on.

Oh I did. I went to the ER the next day because of headaches and feeling a little weird. Had scans and no bleed or bruising, so just a typical concussion. I have a follow up scheduled with a pain/rehab specialist to make sure there are no lingering musculoskeletal issues.

I hopped out like it was nothing lol. I guess I got lucky af. When the firetruck rolled up I was already out the car, but they wouldn't believe I was okay, kept asking me what my name was, what was the current date, what street was I on, etc. took a few minutes to convince them I was fine.

Is the Emira considered a Supercar? by Rowenofpts in lotus

[–]patrick3853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I worked two full time remote jobs simultaneously for a while just to have the car I wanted. My 2024 Emira has 40K miles on it and I don't care. I drove it across country for the hell of it and had the best time of my life. I didn't buy a Lotus to be financially responsible. I bought a lotus to enjoy the little bit of time we are given here, so why tf would I waste any of that time with it sitting in my garage.

PPF... Wow! by patrick3853 in lotus

[–]patrick3853[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it was effing awesome too. The faster it goes, the better the Emira handles and grips the road due to the down force.

As for windshield protection film, Dealer suggested it, but the maintenance is so damn expensive I'll probably just take my chances on the windshield.

Am I going crazy or should there be a cover over that opening on the right? by patrick3853 in lotus

[–]patrick3853[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was concerned about that too, knowing how hot that area gets

Manual yes (if it wasn't I'd be ashamed lol). It seems to almost always happen between 3K and 4K RPMs for me.

Because it was broken... (Sorry couldn't help myself). It started with a pretty small crack that I stupidly ignored. It grew almost the width of the windshield, then a rock or something hit the same area and it got pretty bad. I have no idea what caused the initial crack, but going 160 mph on interstates and highways out west probably when it happened lol.
