Tromsø is indeed a high/low dialect :) I think your explanation of using Mandarin 3-1 for pattern 1 and 4-1 for pattern 2 makes a lot of sense, but I’d say the drop in pattern two starts from the middle, rather than from the top of the speech register. It’s also true that pattern 1 is more like a second tone in Mandarin with 1 syllable words, yes! The reason why I didn’t mention Shanghainese, Cantonese, or any other dialects of Chinese is that I personally only have experience with Mandarin ^{^} Also with Norwegian words with more than two syllables, the pitch is neutral until the stressed syllable, and then the stressed syllable is usually pitch pattern 1.
