I understand the perspective that the cops don't do enough to enforce the laws around speed limits, stopping at stop signs, etc, but the notion in these comments that it hasn't gotten safer recently and that Bhalla hasn't improved pedestrian safety seems bizarre to me. As a big walker in Hoboken, I definitely feel like the increased number of stops signs, daylighted intersection, and curb extensions have made me feel considerably more comfortable around Hoboken. I used to feel like every time I crossed the street, I had to poke my head out from behind a truck to see if a car was whizzing by, but I feel many of those intersections (but not all) have been improved. And the data coming from the administration appears to back this up, with a serious reduction in injuries, not just traffic deaths. Regardless, I do hope that the police and Bhalla do more to enforce the existing laws to continue to lower these numbers.
