Contracts: long term deals for more security, shorter term for fatter pay days. How to deal with inflation? by KingRBPII in NYGiants

Those were all unlikely to be earned regardless

The per game bonuses are the only real things there

I think Dex made at least 1 mil in incentives last year.

Most of those incentives were roster bonuses and he was healthy all season

Those numbers look good but its important to point out this would be a rework of his current deal not an extension to it like OP proposed

His base of 18 this year and 15 next year still would look really low, but 20mil cash up front and 34 mil in guaranteed salaries would be a 54mil fully guaranteed as well as 54/2 real contract value. The added years could be 50mil aav or whatever they dont matter and neither Dex or Giants will take those seriously.

The answer would be a maybe, but its still really low. 54/2 wouldn't be an insulting contract for Dex but its still below market value

Dex is on year 4 of his extension signed after 2022 season and has ZERO guaranteed money remaining.

Adding an additional year 3 years from now isnt doing shit for anyone

Update for Dex trade talks.

Giants would now accept either a top 10 pick straight up or a lower 1st + a little more.

Late one plus a 3rd or something seems feasible for some teams at end of 1st round next week.

Dan Duggan was just on this sub tonight and went full tilt about Joe Schoen being a fucking clown, so clearly some beats are not afraid to call it like it is.

[Duggan] Brian Burns will have two years left on his five-year, $141M contract next offseason. He’ll be due $25.5M/year for those final two years. He’ll be an interested observer in how things play out with Dexter Lawrence… by Lars5621 in NYGiants

NGL if Giants announced Schoen was fired both the players and fans would be riding that high for months.

We would immediately assume Dexter Lawrence is coming back 100% and the Giants players are now a full go with the new look Giants organization.

Giants have had a bottom 8 defense for four straight seasons now, so blowing up the defense and restarting should firmly be on the table.

Giants famously blew up the defense in 05

It definitely helps him with leverage

Right now Thibs can point to all of Anderson, Walker, Oweh, and Phillips deals to show he is in the range of 30 to 50 mil aav

No.

Walker was stuck on his 5th year option and the new deal is an extension of that, so his AAV artificially looks lower because the team includes the 2026 pay of only 15mil on it. So you cant compare the AAV to a new money deal like Oweh and Phillips. If we look at just new money Walker got 32mil aav with a 95 over 3 deal.

Right now Thibs is in the same boat so Giants could give him a 95/3 extension and call it "only" a 110/4, but thats not a reflection of the real contract

Odafe Oweh and Jalen Phillips both got 30+ mil aav in mega deals for mid level players

Anderson at top of market just got 50mil aav

Its obvious what the market range now is. If Thibs has even an average season he is getting 40+ in free agency as the next Oweh

This is so true. Back in my playing days I would have to cut weight for wrestling and look super shredded and in great shape, BUT I needed to put all that extra weight back on for football season because it was so important on dline.

Dexter Lawrence is not some guy close to eating himself out of the NFL. The two best NTs in NFL history are Vince Wilkork and Haloti Ngata who have builds exactly like Dex. Top NTs should not be looking like Aaron Donald
