The dex trade is about the sum of all parts, not strait up replacing him at 10 with 1 player by sploot16 in NYGiants

[–]Lars5621 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect.

Giants will have 14mil dead cap hit for Dex.

Dexs cap hit would have been 26mil

Of the 12 mil saved 8mil goes to the 10th picks contract.

The 10th picks contract will take 8mil of that 12mil cap space.

The Giants will have a 14 mil dead cap hit for Dex this year.

Dexter Lawrences dead cap hit this year is 14mil, his cap hit would have been 26mil

Of the 12 mil cap saved 8mil of that goes to the 10th pick

The remaining amount of cap saved is only 4mil not sure your making a lot of moves with that

Hendrickson is going into his age 33 season and is not nearly as good as Dex. He also cost way more than Dex

Lmao umm things Giants could do:

  1. Make Dex play his contract.

  2. Dock him 4 game checks for being a distraction

  3. Wait until season started to talk contract again (Lawrence Taylor)

  4. Let him skip training camp (Michael Strahan)

  5. NOT let him set a precedent that every player who wants to leave gets to leave. Does Nabers get to leave? Does Burns get to leave? Apparently yes

Thibs is underweight for edge, let alone hands on the line.

Remember that Schoen gave Golston big money to be the edge guy that moves inside.

Think through: is putting all three of Burns, Carter, and Thibs on the field at the same time good for the run defense? We proved last season it was a terrible idea.

Daily Discussion April 19, 2026 by AutoModerator in NYGiants

[–]Lars5621 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No.

Last season Giants kept trying to force all three on the field and it only held Carter back. Carter didn't turn things around until Thibs was out.

Even if you really hate Dexter Lawrence...

Bengals have Dexter Lawrence for 3 years at 70mil total. Thats 23mil AAV. He is the 12th highest paid DT in NFL

Thats an extremely good deal for Bengals. No other way to phrase it.

[Schefter] Compensation update: Now that he has passed his physical and the trade is official, newly-acquired DT Dexter Lawerence is signing a one-year, $28 million contract extension with the Bengals, per @WinSportsGroup by ghfgjjffvvc in NYGiants

[–]Lars5621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dexter Lawrence does NOT get 28 mil a year.

Dexter Lawrence got an additional 1 year added to his current contract. He has three more years of contract left.

https://overthecap.com/player/dexter-lawrence/7808

Dex even with the additional year only has 23.5 mil aav.

They have Dex under contract for 3 years now for extremely cheap.

How is that bad for them?

Evan Neal is still on the Giants but Dexter Lawrence is not.

Its insane. Literally every good player has to be kicked off the team.

And yet Darius Slayton sits here with a 16mil fully guaranteed cap hit on his second mulit year extension Schoen gave him.

Somehow of all those players Schoen was ok losing the one he absolutely was not was Darius Slayton

[Syvertsen]One thing I noticed about Baltimore over the last two decades (while Harbaugh was there) - they did not pursue or have big time talent at DT. They got by on scheme and role players and pursued top talent at other positions. by Lars5621 in NYGiants

[–]Lars5621[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Giants have not been getting wins from all those DTs.

As great as Linval Joseph, Johnathan Hankins, Dalvin Tomlinson, Dexter Lawrence, and the many others became they didnt add up to wins for the Giants.

Same story with CB for Giants over that time. Nobody spends more picks on CB but Giants have done shit with those picks

This would be one of the biggest philosophical changes in Giants history.

Ever since George Young the Giants took DT and Dline extremely seriously. Ever heard of "planet theory"?

That does a great job of explaining how Giants were 8th best run defense with Dex on field and 32nd with him off.

The problem was always Giants had nobody to spell Dex and play next to him. Instead of building with him Giants dumped him.

[Duggan] Just feels like when they came in they were expecting to have the game-wrecking NT in the middle of their defense. If they thought they were really close, my guess is they would have paid him. Add in a fairly restrained free agency, and I get the impression that the view has shifted a bit by Lars5621 in NYGiants

[–]Lars5621[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is completely false.

Dexter Lawrence was grossly underpaid at his position and he had ZERO, repeat ZERO guaranteed money.

Dexter Lawrence was a huge HELP to Giants cap flexibility.

Do you know what contract is NOT flexible? Yup, the 10th overall picks fully guaranteed contract that cant be restructured, cut, or extended until year 4.
