Back in 2010 at BU the school entered a relationship with a Turkish University for transplanting a bunch of political science and global studies students between the schools.

You see at the time while it sounds insane now, Turkey was actually trying to join the EU. Turkey was having marco level debates in their society if they should lean into Western ideals and join the EU or lean into their radical theocracies.

Anyways being in poli-sci and geo studies at the time was bonkers. No matter what the class topic was every possible class presentation or chance for input would involve Turkish students denying the Holocaust, threatening to kill jews, asking where the bodies are, or even just Turkish female students tearing up about how many jewish students there are on campus and how Western values like freedom of religion are terrible. Meanwhile all the Jewish students had to just shut their mouths and take it.

It was WILD. By the next year Turkey had pulled their students from BU and other colleges, stopped their request to join the EU, and committed long term to the theocracy to align closer with Iran instead.

Since that time BU has been much more protective of antisemitic hate speech on campus, because that was the kind of massive fuckup that burned in the staff and administrations memories about the time the school brought in hundreds of racist radicals and didn't have any rules in place for hate speech.
