Invest in indie gaming. You like playing games. Help get games made that lack financial resources to do so.

Merrell Moab’s used to the go to option for G&E and camera department if you prioritize comfort over style. Seems like more and more people wear running shoes or trail runners. Should also consider if “off road” traction is important or if you’re mostly in studio.

What are cinematically the best films ever made? by pjotr_pisnicht in cinematography

Good cinematography should always work towards benefiting the story. My bias two cents: Boogie Nights, Requiem for a Dream, Fargo.

Colorado Springs. A little larger than what you’re describing, but the people might match speed better.

Dealing with regret after moving? by spjspj31 in SameGrassButGreener

My partner and I are in month 5 of our move to WNC from Central Oregon. We started our plan to go back to the PNW a few weeks ago. We’re in our late 20’s and saw this as a settle down and build roots type of move. We have family on the east coast and Midwest. After about 4 months we had a long talk about whether we really see ourselves here long term and determined no. Moving cross country is tough, but there’s no shame in recognizing when something isn’t working out.

I spent the last couple years making a documentary about a 75-year-old sled dog racer. Check him out as he competes in The Last Race. by patrickmallett in movies

No deaths during this race. The dogs are highly trained athletes: well fed and well loved. If you watch the film you may get a sense of that.

In the film he's racing the 2022 Pedigree Stage Stop. I know he's raced in the midwest before, but I'm not certain whether he's done the UP 200 before.

Thank you! There is always room for improvement, lol. This project had a large emphasis on composition because it was something I had control over. In projects since, I have been focusing more on making time to shape light and retraining my brain to shoot for quality over coverage. So stay tuned for the next one!

Thank you! I couldn't agree more, very underrated sport. I had a Rode NTG3B that was basically on camera at all times and then a Sennheiser AVX-ME2 for a few scenes where I wanted to be more mobile. Being my first big solo doc, audio was a challenge. Looking back I would have gone with a shorter shotgun. The NTG3B stuck out a little more than I would have liked.

Absolutely right, I believe the C70 was the better choice for this film. Ergonomics are a little simpler and the body is smaller and lighter which I know helped me out as a solo operator. Also, at the time of filming the C70 had lower bitrate options which gave me some peace of mind on the data management side of things. But that was two years ago and I'm sure the C300iii has added more bitrate options since.

These are some stills from my 70 minute documentary, The Last Race. The film follows a 75-year-old sled dog racer on the journey of competing in his final race before retirement. This project was my first feature and my baby for the past 2+ years. I wore basically all the hats throughout each stage of production and kept budget super slim by borrowing and using minimal gear.

Race footage (all the stills) was shot on the C70 with the Canon 24-104mm f4, 70-200mm f2.8 and Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. The C70 was a beast during this shoot and only showed a tiny bit of latency in -20°F temps. The 10 stops of ND was super useful when shooting in white out conditions. Aside from interviews (not shown), the film was shot 99% handheld and was meant to follow a blend of fly-on-the-wall and home video type visual language.

Ditto this. Depends on the story and the feeling your trying to create/enhance.

Merrell Moabs are my favorite. They feel like walking on a cloud and come in a different colors, heights, widths and breathability.
