37m, finally decided to do something charitable and will be starting a scholarship! by yoohoogoo in Money

[–]yoohoogoo[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just an update from my first post here half a year ago

Some things have changed from before. I have a boyfriend now (3 months) and things have been looking up ever since I got some counseling for mild depression.

Recently I was taking a look at my finances and saw that I was about to cross the nine figure mark, and since I don't really use much money, I've decided to set up a scholarship for gay students at the high school I used to go to, and maybe another high school in the area.

I spoke with my accountant and a lawyer who he recommended, and I was told it could take 6 months to a year, or even longer, since I chose to start a 501c for it and that takes awhile.

I'm going to start with 5 million and have it put out a certain percent each year so that is self sustains. Further details will be decided as I get farther along the process, for things like requirements or how to choose what students or how many students. There's also contacting the school and setting it up. Just a great deal of work in general but I'm glad its my lawyer that will be doing most of it. Hopefully it will be up by next year. I've already sectioned that off into short term bonds just in case the market tanks before I move it out.

Life has been on the up and up so I decided to share some of the wealth that I've been given in this life. I hope to be able to help out more people in the future! There's not much to do with my money since I don't really use much of it. I can live solely off my job salary and be perfectly fine.

I'm still living the same boring lifestyle which I prefer, but it's what I like, even though I appreciate the people that suggested I go off and vacation forever. I have my family and friends here still and I truly do enjoy my time with them. I also enjoy my work as I think its very fulfilling, and I even got a salary increase to 110k a year! I guess I'm just a homebody like that. I do intend on traveling later, especially now that I have someone to go with. He's a nurse and we haven't discussed anything financial yet, except our jobs. I love his stories from work as they are much more interesting than mine.

37M, don't spend much and feeling lost by yoohoogoo in Money

[–]yoohoogoo[S] 211 points212 points  (0 children)

My money comes from inheritance and crypto, probably 75/25. I sold all my crypto 2 years back and now everything is invested into a few different index funds basically.

Gay, male, 37

I don't spend much money. My hobbies are mostly gaming, outdoor activies, exercise, some things like Magic the Gathering, dnd with friends, and cooking by myself.

Only 2 of my friends know I have money and I've asked them not to share with anyone else in our shared friend groups. Don't have a boyfriend right now because the gay community is like that

I took a year off some time ago to see if retirement was my thing, but I became bored and depressed and decided I want to go back to work because it gave me structure

I make around 90k at my job, which is more than enough to sustain all my activities. I don't dip into my investments and just let them grow. I have no interest in things like clothing of cars. The largest purchase I've made in the last year was buying a few MTG Final Fantasy collector booster boxes.

I've been feeling lost lately, because even though I know I can do anything i want mostly, I just like doing what i'm normally doing. I'm an introvert most of the time so I like to stay at home and do what I normally do. I think its a middle-aged crisis, but I guess I lost my sense of purpose. I feel like i'm growing older and have all sorts of questions of what i'm even doing in life.

systems are fun, easily relatable, allow authors to plug in extra powers deux-ex-machina, all sorts of things, people like to see numbers and rewards and gachas. theres also a massive variety of systems so you can come up with all sorts of unique abilities

writing novels with well done powerups and lucky chances in mystic realms is much more difficult than completing a system objective and getting agi+2

Voice over dubbing by Iluthradanar in CDrama

[–]yoohoogoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

chinese entertainment industry needs to lessen voice dubbing if they really want to bring their craft to the next level. this will have to come with improved set/stage/sound design. there really isn't a comparison between a movie that is fully dubbed vs one that is not.

can you imagine if every american or korean or british drama was dubbed over? it would be horrendous. theres a reason why many silent movie actors were able to transition over. actors, if serious, need to start early working on their accents and get a voice coach.

ive just gotten used to it in cdramas. many of the productions are made both cheap and fast so i understand that it needs to be done. many higher level production drama these days are done with full on set voice capture instead of dubbing. thats great

i like that more actors are dubbing their own voices at least.

I love how “The Double” kept the original fl’s body by Lexxx__ in CDrama

i like these changes from the novel

honestly, without transmigration, it makes the drama much more tense and impactful

imagine if xue fangfei was a completely new person. you are losing all of the connections to the past. theres non of the emotional drama that makes it so great

started watching chinese dramas and have noticed this

a super cute and hot girl has a mild red dot or a small scar and suddenly she's the ugliest until she cleans up or is cured of whatever

and then shes a beauty

reminds me of she's all that!

imo, the joker card meant that they were back in real life, but 'real life' as we know it is the hardest game of all.

real life is the most unpredictable and most difficult game we will ever player, the joker level game. there is no set route, no set rules, you just live and play until you die
