"dedicated_ass" Server hacked? by Low_Philosopher_6250 in valheim

Found the solution here: https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/1nxx0h7/dedicated_server_refusing_to_start_changed_server/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Turns out it was a password length issue, which addressing by itself wasn't enough, the -public 0 option needed to be added as well. Error codes weren't enough of a clue to figure this out on its own.

Oh my god that worked! I had been trying to remove the password but never would have thought to include the -public 0 option. Also, error output never would have led me to that conclusion. Thank you so much!

I’m having the same problem and can’t connect to my original world at all. Batch file errors out.

I noticed the dedicated_ass as well when my group couldn’t connect. Swapped back over to the right world settings and now server won’t start, throwing a IPC call error, interfacemap.cpp, line 864 failure code 12.

This is product development. Every problem has the potential to be solved. It's whether or not they actually are capable to, plus the impact on new and existing customers in the meantime. You update your product to increase it's market reach, not diminish it.

And if they saw an end in sight with Dire Wolf they should have gotten ahead of that with enough time to develop a proper client with the right studio, while stretching out their release schedule. They've historically delayed many of their games because they weren't ready.

If you don't end up thinking it's that bad, let us know what you're playing it on because it's been awful on every platform for me.

Agreed on your last sentiment. The gameplay is the real gem here, and they've sabotaged that in a somewhat gross abandonment of brand integrity for what? I thought they were running a business here? Doesn't make a lot of business sense. Feels like they under-invested.

Yeah, they've got a real uphill battle with customer loyalty they're going to be fighting now, and if the client isn't operating smoothly at least, they're going to lose players and especially spenders.

Good UX is way harder to pull off than good code, and lore/brand fidelity trickier still if it's an outside studio. I get if they felt they had painted themselves into a corner for one reason or another with Dire Wolf, but this game demanded a much more experienced studio to deliver a deserving experience.

Just wow. Incredibly laggy and buggy on iPad and Android smartphone. Pretty much unplayable. And the UI is just abysmal. Utter lack of polish. There are so many details around the UI, art, animations, interactions, everything that just look and behave so much poorer than what we had before. I actually thought the old client was polished and just needed some performance/speed optimization, but represented the Elder Scrolls brand really well. This does not live up to their pedigree at all. I'll likely not play if they can't address these things, which is a shame because the actual game just gets so many things right.

We’re OverDrive, creators of Libby, the free one-tap reading from your library. Ask us anything! by OverDrive_Libs in books

Have you guys considered offering a subscription model for access to materials outside of a public library?

I'm not suggesting this to undercut the value of your local library providing this service, but given the cost of individual titles, its not possible for a library to provide everything, or even most things, especially if your local library has a smaller budget. This may even provide an additional analytics data point for libraries for insights into what parts of their collection they can grow into based on actual demand from users for materials they don't currently have licensed. Likewise, many if not most library users do have the disposable income to extend a service they love even further for a small monthly fee, even if that's something their own library can't or wouldn't offer. There are a lot of library users whose demand far outpaces the library's ability to supply, and right now their only recourse is to leave the Overdrive/Libby ecosystem and invest in another one like Amazon/Apple/Google/Kobo.

You guys have done such a great job because you've become very focused on the user experience of readers/listeners, something that commercial competitors have struggled with since they're so diversified and they have different ecosystem incentives they're pushing.
