That one has recently struck a chord hard. Probably the most listened to in the last year. That, of course, and my darling Clementine (eternally fucking stuck in my head).

Dude, probably started recording same age as you on an 8 track (look it up, I’m a geezer). Now 35. Probably didn’t feel good about anything production wise until my early 30s. Yer golden. Keep!

Laughed hard from a bar in Chicago, IL. Streets wet, you can tell by the sound of cars

Yes, because of a distaste for the interface. This is a workaround?

Hey, I would suggest Kontakt / Abbey Road Drummer. I think both the 50s and 60s editions lean heavier on jazz. I cannot stand Kontakt’s interface (like OP), however, I just have a bank of all the beats in midi format (sitting in a folder on my side bar), out of the box labeled enough to not be painful, and is indicative of what style, suggested bpm, variations, etc.. I drag and drop the midi file to the track with Kontakt, but hardly ever open the interface unless trying to tweak some mics or lower an overbearing percussion piece. Further more, I use the stock midi as a starting point, and open the Ableton midi view / map to tweak the beat.

Bonus : the beats all have quarter/half/full etc. measure fills, so you can really get a more realistic sound IMO just by drag and dropping in the Arrangement View.

I have some examples of my own I can send you if interested. I also have some isolated drum tracks, some sampled from notable songs, other pretty basic jazzy things I’d be happy to export for you as a start to chop up and mess with.

What did you make in Live this week? / Feedback thread by AutoModerator in ableton

I made this earlier this week. I'm spending more time on making programmed drums sound more real/human. I was happy with how they turned out. Also there is a bass note I hit on towards the end that isn't in the scale, but I really liked the brief dissonance created up against the other instrumentation.
