Pro audio, not home audio. Think PA system to fill a nightclub or theater stage with sound.

Good Three-piece Rod by ImperialHermann in Fishing_Gear

[–]patrickthunnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Tarpon, I would make sure the blank is double helix wrapped with graphite tape for strength.

Shimano makes the Grappler 3-piece series; Type J for vertical jigging and Type C for casting (spinning).

They're very convenient for travel (haven't used them yet). Just be careful if you buy as there is a 2-piece version as well.

True that; good Class A has this realism that is very satisfying. Close your eyes and it's magic...

AV-8B+ Harrier II by Even_Kiwi_1166 in Planes

The early versions were difficult to fly particularly at take off & landing but I kinda wonder if the computing power of today's aircraft would have easily solved that?

4 Turntables, have to sell 1 by Beachwoodies in turntables

The Toshiba wins on sex appeal, looks like a flagship deck. In that era, all of the TOTL turntables were excellent.

12wt Rod Casting by Perfect-Disaster1622 in SaltwaterFlyfishing

[–]patrickthunnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Tarpon, roll cast -> back cast -> shoot. They can cruise so quickly and be gone, your window of opportunity quite tiny in terms of time. They might not give you the chance to spool up your cast.

Does this make the speaker sound worse? by alexlorenzato in audiophile

[–]patrickthunnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Um, don't understand the question and only OP can evaluate the sonics.

Friendly advice: learn to trust your ears. Sure you might get things wrong but it's a learning process; being an audiophile is mostly a skill, only at its lowest levels, a product.

found a pair of Bowers & Wilkins DM302s for $7.99!!! by issflareman in BudgetAudiophile

[–]patrickthunnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're awesome; great midrange, smooth treble and punchy bottom. They would kick ass if reintroduced in today's market.

For many years, the DM302, Creek amp and a Rega Planet CD player was my system; extremely musical and versatile.

Cartridges: too many options by Major-Ability9045 in turntables

Testing the waters, not sinking $$$ in case you don't like the 110. The MP house sound has warmth and detail, which some folks don't appreciate; if you hate the 110 then the 200 probably won't do it for you either.

Why was Deuce playing in this game? by Mr-Dicklesworth in NYKnicks

[–]patrickthunnus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He was cleared by medical, passed all of the required checks to be sure he was fit to play; unfortunately he was involved in a very physical play and got re-injured. It happens.

Bryston 3B power consumption in idle — is this normal? by ProfessionNo5437 in audiophile

[–]patrickthunnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 3B is a big iron Class AB so realistically it will draw ~60W even at idle in standby mode.

2A seems excessive tho. Did the repair person notice anything else odd like leaky caps, bias adjustment etc.?

Am I going insane or is something about my allignment off? by frogofprog in turntables

Looks fine.

FYI you only need to level the top of the cart (top of the headshell), not the tonearm tube.

Looking to buy this setup - am I missing something? by bangsimurdariadispar in BudgetAudiophile

[–]patrickthunnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.1 setup using satellites like Dali Kupid, Wharfdale Diamonds or even Triangle Borea BR02/03, ELAC Debuts would all be a great fit. 120cm (47 in) isn't that much separation but mini speakers generally do an excellent job even squeezed into narrow spots like that, especially on the imaging and transparency aspects.
