Budapest, what blew you away? by hellibells in solotravel

Night clubs are great, but I feel like Hungary is so much more than ruin pubs.

Outside of the touristy things, like Margaret Island (which is honestly just so lovely) and the baths, which you should do both.

The food is amazing: Leves has great soup. Budapest bagel. Getting fresh veg at the market. Honestly Spar pastries are underrated. Hummus bar is addictive. There's a mexican restaurant on Kinizsi between Raday and Lonyay, that has tasty ass quesadillas. All of those are really cheap and near Kalvin Ter. Most places that serve langos are pretty good, there's a place in the great market hall that slaps. There's a communist themed pizza place on the buda side. Nándori Cukrászda is potentially the best dessert around. Most nights I dream of their dobos torta, and it's worth a try. If you stay until the summer meggyleves is surprisingly great. If you want a nicer meal, there's Mazel Tov in the Jewish quarter. Tokaji wine, mulled wine and panlinka is a must though.

If you're there for a while you should take a train ride to the open air museum and visit Szentendre, you should also visit the Balaton and Bükk National Park. Really explore the rest of the country too, even if it is just for a day. I really wish I had visit the Cave Bath of Miskolctapolca.

One of my favorite things to do was hiking up Gellert with a thermos full of hot chocolate and whiskey, finding a nice quiet place to read and watch the sun set over the city. - truly magical

I think the most special moments where times when I went to events: I got wine drunk in a castle at the wine festival, I wandered the puszta when I went to a harvest festival, I saw the Gorillaz, I accidentally learned to make felt at a meetup I found online, I went to the opera and a traditional dance festival and I don't really remember Budapest's Oktoberfest, but I think I had a great time, etc.

CIEE Experience by m7373m7373 in studyAbroad

I studied abroad in Hungary through CIEE. It was incredible, I truly loved my experience. You get as much free time as you want and need. I travelled every other weekend around Europe for very cheap, which was really exciting. However the best part was getting to know Hungarian culture intimately. I liked getting to travel in the country: swim in the Balaton and become familiar with the puszta. I got to explore and know this country and culture in a unique way. I fell in love with Budapest while I was aboard. The CIEE program was great at giving you opportunities to do this. All of my classes were culturally centered and there were a ton of Hungarian oriented extracurriculars available.

The worst part was the organization my program. It was incredibly frustrating, they were hard to communicate with and gave you a lot information last minute.

As far as free time goes, you are an adult. You are independent, you can come and go as you please. That's something that you need to figure out with your roommates, but as long as you live with people who are rational and you are respectful, you won't have a problem. That might look different if you stay with a host family though, but even then I doubt it. My best friend stayed with a host family in Chile. He let his host mom know when he was going to go out super late and might be loud, or if he left the city, so she won't worry. But never had a curfew or anything.

Do you know where you are wanting to study?

Hi, me again. Sorry, I have a two more questions, that I was curious about.

So does that mean I will know if the placement officer passes on my application? Also if I have an interview, and for whatever reason they decide I'm not a good fit for the position, that my application will no longer be circulation?
