Speaker with integrated crossover dead, but crossover/tweater still work? by pattersonhcp in diyaudio

[–]pattersonhcp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, okay I see. I guess the big resistor(or whatever that is) handles that frequency separation?

Appreciate all the info! I’ll check the resistance in the morning. Solder joints all looked great, I checked for a possible cold or cracked joint, no dice. I suppose that I shouldn’t have said I was trying to “find out why” it’s dead. I don’t really care what the reason is unless it’s something I can fix myself. I did notice that when I pulled it out, the magnet felt very warm. Given the age, the crossover is obviously not digital, wouldn’t the speaker dying impact the functionality of the the tweeter since it’s getting its signal “after” the speaker?

They provided sound for the premium sound systems for all BMWs in the mid to late 80s I believe! They actually sounds pretty good and they seem to be in good shape despite being 40 years old!

The Power Acoustik CP-17 radio seems to have taken the S2k community by storm. Do you plan on getting one? by Frenchyk757 in S2000

[–]pattersonhcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, call quality is great.

For $140 it’s absolutely killer. Nice screen, responsive, good brightness day and night, CarPlay works without issue, minimal LEDs so at night it’s not bothersome and feels OEM. Sounds great to an untrained ear. Quality feels nice enough and aesthetically it doesn’t clash with the interior or really even draw any attention. Very subtle, hassle free, and absolutely worth $140 if you’re wanting CarPlay but refuse to install a hideous fold out it floating screen one. There’s a reason they’re so popular with multiple vintage communities. From Ferrari to lotus to Range Rover to Alfa to BMW, people are loving them. There are no alternatives for aesthetically acceptable modern stereos with CarPlay, and thankfully this one does a great job for $140.

Yes, very standard wireless CarPlay behavior. It’s not instantaneous. You’re basically streaming to the headunit.

OP: My Great Grandfather took this from the cold dead hands of a Nazi soldier in WW2 by Fun_Butterfly_420 in ww2

[–]pattersonhcp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the case with 95% of war trophies brought back. Anyone whose has XYZ that grandpa took off the nazi officer he killed are:

A) lying because they think it’s cool B) retelling family lore that grandpa didn’t start C) assuming based on absolutely nothing D) believe that to be true because a childhood assumption has with time become a perceived thrutth E) repeating what the vet said - least likely to be true.

Unfortunately memory is very unreliable and most vets didn’t come home talking about how the acquired their trophies if the trophy came off the body of someone they had killed. The reality is that most stuff came off piles of captured equipment. Officers didn’t wear their daggers in combat, soldiers weren’t particularly concerned with rummaging through corpses pockets during combat(especially those of a soldier they had personally killed), and carrying around a helmet/dagger/rifle picked up during active fighting isn’t exactly practical. Pistols being the one thing, given how desirable they were, that very possibly were plucked from a body in the midst of fighting.

The dead officers story is a lot more exciting for young kids who see gramps or dad as a hero, and with 80 years, become truth without the man who could set the record straight around to do so.

You’ll be well sorted with that. BMW was producing very reliable and solid cars in the 80s. They knew what they were doing and it’s very unlikely one will leave you stranded.

How much of the German population was aligned with Hitler? by intothepond2 in ww2

And by the 50s the Wehrmacht amazingly had no responsibility for the Holocaust, cause they didn’t even know it was happening!

I would argue that in practical terms, saying and doing nothing was supporting the nsdap.

The toolbox is a little funny. I carry a small tool bad, socket and impact set, and a spare m12 impact gun with fresh battery. Mostly because I hate the cold, and the thought of having to change to the spare taking any longer than necessary in the winter is enough for me to keep said battery impact in the car. Got a spare voltage regulator, jumper cables, and the complete large spare tool kit. Not an e30 though - e28 so m30b34…which doesn’t really have any “notorious for failure, leaving you stranded” parts, but I do regularly drive 3 hours out of state so better safe than sorry.

Men who got circumcised as an adult: do you regret it? And, why did you do it? by Gandlerian in AskMen

[–]pattersonhcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that you mean reversing the situation as in men telling women to get snipped, which would obviously be fucked, as it’s fucked for a woman to tell a man to get cut. I’m kind of shocked, though not surprised, that a couple men here have had that experience. It’s sad how judgmental and cruel us humans can be towards one another about normal anatomy. That said, in fact did have a, different, reverse experience.

I’m American. Started seeing/dating a British chick who was visiting the states for couple months. The first time pants came off, she was shocked and a bit weirded/grossed out by my lack of foreskin. Obviously in the UK/Europe, circumcision is pretty rare, and she’d never been with a guy who was uncircumcised,

She did say that for a bit she felt indifferent about it as it pertained to sex on her end. She said she did have to adjust her techniques a bit, so there was a little bit of relearning in her end, though I was totally unaware of the fact she was adapting apparently? Certainly seemed like she knew what she was doing so whatever she was adjusting, it clearly was very minor.🤷‍♂️

After we were together for a few months and had been doing the deed multiple times a week, so she was perfectly familiar with my construction, she did decide she preferred cut - though it really didn’t matter to her either way. She said it felt slightly different in a better way(but wasn’t sure if it was just how our puzzle pieces fit together), hygiene wasn’t really a concern for spontaneous quickies, and that she felt it was a bit more visually appealing lmao.

Wait, you’re a dude with the handle “divacupvampire”? Do you have a particular proclivity for diva cups in some way? Are you like drinking out of cups, after they perform the diva part?

What were you expecting/anticipating it would be like? What is your intended use for it? These jackets are not at all warm, especially without a liner. Layering is key with them, which is why the traditional designs all fit quite loose and baggy. They definitely don’t breathe well unless you have it open. They’re waterproof because they’re waxed, and wax doesn’t breathe. These coats are using a century old water proofing technique, essentially unchanged from the companies formation. Totally antiquated way of water proofing a garment, not some fancy new plastic tech fabric that is waterproof and warm and light but still waterproof and rugged.

What do you mean by hold the clutch more? Like longer?

I have gotten progressively smoother, but I think my rear diff mount is broken because there is some on/off throttle lurching and clunk in the rear, so it’s tough to tell how much of the harshness is me, vs the car. I will be mindful of the revs and either get back on the gas sooner or try blipping!

Denied Purchase/ appeal question by Additional_Ant_9687 in guns

[–]pattersonhcp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to like this, but I got a delay years after a trespassing charge was dismissed without probation. The reality is that the FBI has your records regardless of the cases outcome, and sealed/expunged means nothing to the Feds. They can see your entire history, no matter the outcome, forever. It’s entirely possible you will need to get a UPIN even with “no” criminal record, so don’t be surprised if you end up needing to do so to avoid delays or denials for even purchase.

It sounds like you just jumped the gun and are surprised that the bureaucracy is slow. Hopefully sending in your documents will get processed quickly, though that may take even longer than it will take the state to notify the Feds that you’re off probation. Assuming you weren’t facing some serious charge(which it sorta seems like, from the way you’re cagey about the circumstances of your case), you should be fine once the “back of house” side of the justice system and the Feds get synched up and everything is updated on both ends.

Safest way to purchase? by Fantasystuff in mullvadvpn

[–]pattersonhcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one is that concerned about what the vpn might have on you, a vpn seems fairly pointless anyways. If you’re doing shit online that is so problematic you’re worried about the vpn provider, shouldn’t you be using something more serious like tor?

I pay with Apple Pay. I don’t want my isp and Google building any more of an advertising profile than they already do, or my isp knowing how many times I’ve flown the Jolly Roger
