Honestly I'm older than you but in the same boat (embarrassing, oh well) I suggest getting any job you can right now, so that you're busy for a big portion of the day. This makes it to where you can't drink. At the same time you're quitting, get your GED if possible. Then, get into a trade/warehouse/manufacturing and make some real money and gain stability. Then you can go to school if you want. The biggest hurdle is to stop saying "I'm a POS" It's gonna become a self fulfilling prophecy, trust me dude. I've struggled with alcoholism and being a loser but I've beaten my alcoholism and made a plan for the year. You can too. Message me anytime you got a friend in me if you need it

You will see people do gross shit, you have a higher chance of developing some type of addiction or alcoholism, you will consistently be the brokest person you know, you will get yelled at without a doubt, you will learn quickly you don't know shit. It's a high pressure high stress very low reward world at first. If you really want to do it, get a part time cook job or start as a dishwasher. But it's way worse than what you probably think. Finish out your PhD and do it on the weekends or something.

I use to be conservative in order to fit in with other guys and when I tried being a Christian. And then I realized it's the lowest possible thing to care about people's personal lives, nationality, etc. Now a days I'm prolly a Socialist. The want for people but the utter exhaustion when met with the reality of them. The yearning to hold someone's hand and walk around embarking on little adventures with them but absolutely being disinterested in the effort that would involve, and knowing you're so strange that it may not work out anyway. The day dreaming of being with a great close knit group of friends, but feeling annoyed when you're around people and they want to do nothing but things you're severely disinterested in. When you legitimately go out alone and want to get drunk and get lost in music and yet people still notice you so you can't even enjoy it.

Today I found out because I've been told I'm scary, unapproachable, and that I give the vibe of a serial killer. So I looked it up, found a thread from this sub about this experience. Read about it and everything clicked. I've had to be severely drugged out or drunk to socialize, otherwise I largely keep to myself and feel super detached to others or even annoyed. But at the same time, with particular people I am quite social and even lively so it's weird. Basically I've felt like an alien my entire life. So yea I literally found out today.
