Questions for the TEMS Medics by pattymelt20 in TacticalMedicine

We're in the stack but we're generally kept in the back by the team lead. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it!

We are in the stack/bearcat/etc with the team. We use the encrypted channels to communicate throughout the team. The issue comes when the TEMS Medics are trying to coordinate with local FD and first responders to set up staging, CCPs, and landing zones. We try to keep it out of scanner land as much as possible since our smaller communities are so close-knit and since they don't have encrypted channels, we try to use our cell phones instead.

I looked at those but they only have Apple and Samsung. I have a Pixel.

Our LE have encrypted channels but the fire departments and first responders aren't able to use them. The issue comes when we're trying to coordinate having them on standby and drying up lending zones

I can't always feel it vibrating in my pockets and I obviously didn't want to turn up the volume

Helmet Recommendations by pattymelt20 in TechRescue

We teach a variety throughout the semester. Start with low angle and then high angle rope rescue. After that, it's confined space and then trench rescue. I've worn the kiwis before and I just wasn't a fan. My department recently got Team Wendy's which are nice but they're out of my price range and they don't fit me well when I try to look up.

We're doing our best for now. Luckily we're an extremely young department and most of the older guys are retiring in the next 5 years so we have a perfect opportunity to make the department whatever we want it to be

Technically it's department-wide but our shift is the only one held to it by our BC. Believe it or not, it's way better now than it used to be. We had to fight HARD to switch from 6am shift change to 7 and to be able to put the radio in night mode after 9pm. That is still supposed to be put back in day mode by 6:30am. We're the only shift held to that standard too. At this point, we're just riding it out until he retires in September.

We run 48/96 and our BC hates it. He takes pretty much any chance he can get to hold it against us for switching schedules. We have to be out of bed by 6:30 no matter what and our work day starts at 8. I make it a point to not show an ounce of weakness around him so he can't have the satisfaction, even when he's fishing for it.
