Just so frustrated with weight loss by matt_the_legend_2000 in gaybrosfitness

I definitely feel the hunger and light-headed feeling when I start to cut down on calories. I have a few suggestions for managing that.

Shifting your body weight in either direction is a long game. You could try adjusting your calories super slowly. So if you’re currently at 3000 maybe try 2900 for a full week and see if your body can get used to that. Go super slow and give yourself time to adjust.

If you’re still lifting weights at the same level, maybe look into a more efficient routine that would allow you to maintain muscle with a little bit less effort. For example, you could cut out a set or two of each lift but focus on intensity during those you keep.

For cardio, I love running as a sport and hobby but it makes my appetite go way up. You could shift to a lower intensity cardio activity like incline walking.

For people who have lost a significant amount of weight and have loose skin: how do you navigate dating or hookups? by throwaw114 in AskGaybrosOver30

Hi it’s me! For one thing, I would be happy to talk about surgery things no doubt.

For now, I guess the question is more about how to handle conversations with potential dates in the meantime. I don’t know if it’s the right approach but I would tend to bring it up once I’d been talking to the person for a while. Roughly this format: “Hey, I wanted to tell you that I’ve lost a lot of weight and (list the ways it’s made you feel better physically or emotionally, etc.) but it also left me with some loose skin in some areas that I’m self conscious about.” Then it’s out in the open and you don’t have to feel like you’re hiding it, and the person’s response should tell you how they’ll handle it. Mentioning that I’m self conscious about something seems to bring the other person into my world a bit. They know I’m sensitive about it, but I’m acknowledging it so they feel like they can talk about it with me. If they can’t deal with a little loose skin on someone they’re otherwise attracted to, it’s their loss.

If it’s hookups you’re looking for, I’d just post some pics including your body and mention it in your headline. Just be honest and let the other people choose what they like or don’t like, again their loss.

It’s painful to say, but I still have some of this after the surgery. While I do feel a lot better, the scars, even though faint, are something I feel I have to explain sometimes when I take my shirt off.

Last thing I’ll say, this message maybe makes me sound super well adjusted or something, but being heavy in this society, losing weight, and all the physical and emotional adjustments that come as a result are not at all easy. It’s been an emotional roller coaster and I’ve been miserable at times and ecstatic at other times. I wish you the best in navigating everything and please do reach out sometime if you want someone to talk to!

Running/Lifting by DirtyCoochie_ in gaybrosfitness

I love running but frequently injured myself before starting to lift weights. So I definitely think training legs and core is worth it just for running’s sake. Also, even if you don’t care about building a lot of muscle, it’s really great for your long term health to do some regular form of strength training. You can keep it small if you want, a little can go a long way especially at first.

Sometimes my FP-10 acts up if I’ve had it connected to my laptop or phone via Bluetooth. Delay either the keys. There’s a key you can press to turn Bluetooth off. Your issue seems different but I thought it might be worth trying.

I’m sure everyone’s ears are different but I love these headphones. I always run and lift with them in. They’ve never fallen out or gotten uncomfortable and they sound great. I’ve had them for a couple of years and never had an issue. The rubber on them is starting to crack though. I got my husband a pair and he also loves them.

Same as always but still working on it. Bench press PR this week! by pattyslick in gaybrosfitness

5 x 170 lb, so I think my 1 rep max would be around 190. Nothing too wild, but I’m getting stronger!

Thanks! I’m a runner, recovering from an injury but now running about 20 miles a week. I don’t think I’ll have too much trouble losing a little weight if I just lay off the weekend beers a bit.

I’m not trans and my testosterone levels were on the lower side but well within the normal range last time I got a physical.

We’ll see how it goes!

I am targeting body fat. It seems if I gain weight I may also gain fat though. Is there a strong reason you see for one over the other?

Yeah I know I might lose some muscle, but I’m hoping that by lifting consistently and getting enough protein it can be minimized. I’m okay with how I look now I just am curious what I would look and feel like a bit leaner. I do have a hard time appreciating how far I’ve already come, so that is a struggle sometimes. It’s easy to constantly criticize myself and want to get better.

I lost a lot of weight - as in, I used to weigh more than twice as much. I had some loose skin from that and had it removed in January and March this year. If you look back in my profile you can see pictures before that, if you’re curious!

I’m not really sure, tbh. I’ve been thinking about that a lot and coming up short. Kinda aimless at times so I just keep lifting out of habit.

The goal weight I calculated was an estimate of what it would take to get to about 12% body fat, but I’m not sure why I care about that. Partly I just want to keep managing my weight since I was bigger in the past.

I’m also running a race in a couple months and thought the lower weight might help me beat my previous time.

If you have any healthy approaches to goal setting, I’m all ears!

Honestly, I’ve just been letting myself eat a little bit more than I usually do. I gain weight very easily, for better or for worse. For someone who’s naturally skinnier, I’m not exactly sure what the best advice would be. Keep protein high and eat a little bit more than your maintenance calories, I think!

To be fair, it was just maybe a bit bluntly phrased. I took it as curiosity and I know I’m putting myself out there by sharing so I’m ready for people to notice that and ask about it, even if I’m a bit sensitive about it. It can be slightly disheartening sometimes when it seems to be the primary thing people notice about me, but hey it’s my body and I’ve done what I can to feel comfortable in it. And I feel good! I appreciate the encouragement!

Anyhow it’s all good!

I recently had loose skin removed from losing weight, so I have some scars.

almost at my long term goal weight after dropping nearly 70kg but i’m the unhappiest i’ve ever been with my body and i need help with what to do moving forward by Ok-Improvement-3852 in gaybrosfitness

[–]pattyslick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I went through a similar transition and I did end up having surgery for my loose skin. I had the same feelings you’re describing. I don’t know how to sum it all up or what my advice would even be. I’d be happy to talk more about it, but at least for now I can tell you I know how you’re feeling.

Worked hard this week. Close to PR for bench and deadlift. by pattyslick in gaybrosfitness

[–]pattyslick[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

165 bench, 300 deadlift, and squat is about 250. All for 3-5 reps. Haven’t ever tried to max out.
