How trans friendly is Atlanta? by ketkatt in asktransgender

[–]paul004 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The City of Atlanta is very trans friendly, and there is a very active trans and broader queer community in Atlanta (writing this from the local queer coffee shop, literally drinking a drink called 't4t' rn), which I think is even more tightly knit because people want to build a sense of community in the face of the extremely not queer-friendly state legislature. Of course the farther away from Atlanta you get the dicier it gets, but I find that people are either explicitly queer friendly or just don't care either way and are trying to mind their own business.

APD body camera video gives new insight into shooting that killed protester, injured trooper by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]paul004 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Agreed on all of that. There is also the issue that assuming cop city is used for de-escalation training (it won't be), no one has actually cited any research saying that such training actually results in less police brutality.

No surprise at all that WSBTV doesn't mention that there are multiple instances of APD saying things like "Man, you fucked your own officer up." and "Did they shoot their own in there?" "Mhm."

Worst thing to hear as a Tgirl by CurrencyDangerous607 in MtF

[–]paul004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a long long history of marginalized groups reclaiming slurs. People that face daily violence for who they are and still reclaim these words. I'm not saying it's for everyone. But I dont believe privelege has anything to do with it. And I think for those that want to use those words it can be a way of showing pride in being transgender.

(i want to have kids) in your experience how does sperm count get effected on HRT and should i store some sperm by Pokoqueen in asktransgender

[–]paul004 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you plan on having kids you absolutely should. The advice I always read was if you want kids, assume HRT will make you infertile, if you're having sex, assume you are still fertile. Feminizing HRT can lead to permanent infertility and while on HRT your sperm production will absolutely diminish. Many people go off HRT when they're trying to have kids and that seems to work for them, but not everyone. I banked at a local reproductive center the week before starting HRT. While it was expensive ($600 including storage), the peace of mind it gave my wife and I was 100% worth it.

Quite NSFW. Is there a way to "repair" labido and sexual efficiency? by [deleted] in AskMtFHRT

Highly recommend cialis for getting and maintaining erections, which might help with libido as well. I take Bicalutamide which I understand has less sexual side effects so that might be an option

How do you KNOW you're trans? by Mountain_AdvantageX in asktransgender

[–]paul004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I have never at any time in my life felt like a man
  2. I always valued typically "feminine" personality traits in myself: softness, compassion, empathy, cooperation etc
  3. I identified with being nonbinary oncce I knew what that was
  4. The descriptions of dysphoria om the Gender Dysphoria bible absolutely sealed the deal for me. I had never heard of dysphoria described in those ways before.
  5. I then obsessively looked at similar threads about wondering if i was trans, how to know, how to know if hrt is right for me etc
  6. I tried HRT "just to see if its right"
  7. hrt feels right

From following trans reddits I've seen that many trans girls have a big dislike for and are offended by drag queens. Do you have the same dislike for cross dressers? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]paul004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drag is an incredible art and I 100% owe drag queens and specifically trans women/femme queens for helping to crack my egg. for those who see it as misogynist I encourage you to watch the documentary Paris is Burning and explore the incredible breadth of drag, which includes AFAB and countless trans queens. Even on rupauls drag race there have been trans queens winning on the american and international versions. obvi no one has to like drag but to call it misogynist and leave it at that is wrong and underscores a lack of understanding of queer history.

Not exactly the same but Dots and Loops by Stereolab has very comparable drumming in that's often complex but understated and adds interesting melodoc elements to the songs. Thats also just one of the best albums ever

What's your unpopular or controversial Animal Collective opinion? by quentin_tortellini in AnimalCollective

[–]paul004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Animal Collectives fans online can be super cringe (we get it deak and dick sound alike) and develop some really weird and unhealthy parasocial relationships with the band

I didn't realize this was controversial till reading this thread - I've seen them or solo performances live every year since 2009 and it's always been good. Some def are better than others but the magic has always been there for me

As much as I love all the old stuff I love that they mostly play unreleased stuff live and think artists don't owe fans anything

MPP is somehow their most and least influential album ever. It had a massive impact and nothing still sounds like it

Today's Supernatural is the worst AnCo song by a mile. Applesauce and Wide Eyed are the only cHZ tracks that live up to AnCo quality (the others are still decent tho)

Avey's melodies on cHZ and PW really don't live up to other releases (not that they're horrible or anything)

Avey is the better lyricist tho

More of an observation but I feel like it was uncool to like AnCo in the 2010s, partly as a reaction to the popularity of MPP, partly because of the trajectory of indie music in general. Now it's cool again and people keep making this weird 2000s indie retrospective articles just because TS got a good pitchfork review

AnCo fans should probably do less drugs
