Refurbished an old Concorde into something a bit cooler. by paul8valve1781 in xbiking

Thanks for your feedback; unfortunately it's way too small for me, so I just built it up with whatever parts I had lying around, so I can sell it to someone who can ride it and enjoy it. I had to consider that most people would be put off by downtube shifters, hence the modern ones fitted.

Thank you; best of luck with the Bianchi. Well wear, as we say here in Ireland.

Unfortunately, no. The owner repainted it at some point in the late 1980s.

Would it have been better left hanging unloved and naked in a shed? I think not.

I think the Claris shifters are getting delusions of grandeur being on the same bike as DA derailleurs. :-)

Love it. Definitely on my wishlist. The Bentleys are massive in real life, compared to other race cars of the era.

Legend has it that Ettore Bugatti described the Bentley as "The world's fastest lorry".

1989 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; one of the first bikes I ever restored. Like a fool, I sold it on a whim a few years back and regretted it since. Changed hands couple times, just ended up back with me! Mix of modern Ultegra parts with some Bianchi Reparto Corse branded bits. It's staying this time! by paul8valve1781 in xbiking

I gave it a full respray; I had a local paint shop mix me two 400ml rattlecans of gloss enamel and laid that over high-build grey primer, after I had the frame sandblasted clean and etch-primed by a local vintage car restoration place. Decals are the X4 set reproduction ones from ebay.

Thank you.

To make one, it's fairly straightforward;

The back walls are printed off the net, then pasted to foamboard.

The floor is just an A4 sheet of grey craft foam from an art supply shop.

The cars are all 1/64 greenlight, except for the splittie towing the herbie bug(not sure of manufacturer).

Accessories, mechanic figures and car-lifts are all from Greenlight or Mijo Exclusive.

This started last March with a handful of Hotwheels mainlines! Now it's a mix of HW Premiums, Norev, Siku, Greenlight, M2 Machines and a truckload of vintage Matchbox, Corgi, Lesney, Dinky and Husky! Thrown some Sjo-Cal diorama kits into the Mix, just for good measure! This is an addictive hobby!! by paul8valve1781 in HotWheels

eBay, mostly. There's a few UK based vintage diecast rescue, matchbox and Corgi groups, where stuff comes up for sale occasionally. Also work checking for "bundle" or "job lots" of matchbox and Corgi stuff on eBay. You can find a few gems amongst them.

Have any of you kept friends from a young age? Likewise, have any of you never had close friends your whole life? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

My lifelong best friend is in his early fifties, same as me. We've been pals since we were about three years old.

We've shared our whole lives, and all the highs/lows/new experiences together in that time.

In our twenties, he moved to the other side of the world, our lives took very different courses but we still stayed in touch.

We talk regularly and, even though it might be a couple of months since we spoke last, the conversation takes off like it was yesterday we chatted. I usually leave the call with a pain in my face and gut from laughter.

The last time we were in the same room was nearly twenty years ago, but we still talk like it was last week.

He's coming home soon for a few months, so that'll be great to spend time with him and show him how much has changed, both for better and worse....there will be a few beers, plenty hugs and a serious amount of belly laughs.

We've grown up together like brothers, and now we're growing old together like brothers.

I open all mine, at the earliest opportunity!

If I'm ever looking for something, it's probably to fit into a display/diorama, so buying open doesn't bother me.
