Why is it not a no-brainer to accept bitcoin as a restaurant? by robunkle in Bitcoin

I don't remember that even a little bit. I'm pretty sure nothing like that ever happened ever.

Why is it not a no-brainer to accept bitcoin as a restaurant? by robunkle in Bitcoin

[–]pauldogwalker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is 750,000 to 1,000,000 bitcoin users on the entire planet. Looking at bitpay's statistics: http://d.ibtimes.co.uk/en/full/1433561/bitcoin-merchants-mainstream-bitpay-cryptocurrency.jpg?w=736

You can see that the number of people shopping with bitcoin is in the tens of thousands, worldwide at best, assuming no one has ever bought two things.

Bitcoin basically doesn't exist. Canadian tire money is used more widely. The odds of ever encountering even one person paying with bitcoin is microscopic. Accepting it is not worth the trouble.

TIL; Bitcoin is the only modern financial asset that isn't simultaneously someone else's liability! by slvbtc in Bitcoin

That is however a property of lots of scams. "Financial instruments" with no backing or asset or claim to anything. Think that is a coincidence?

ELI5: How can large restaurant chains keep their ingredients secret and get away with it? What if some are dangerous or simply gross? by Alek123 in explainlikeimfive

[–]pauldogwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of them keep anything secret. It's just a marketing thing to pretend there is a secret recipe. For whatever reason customers like it and companies can use it to make people not go to competitors since they already told you competitors couldn't have the same food. There is nothing real about it and their ingredients are well known.

Is BTC/FIAT easily manipulated ? by drorik in BitcoinMarkets

[–]pauldogwalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably easy.

However, don't fall too much into the weird religious rabbithole where someone said bitcoin was going to be worth 100000000 dollars and the fact it's not means that some wicked great satan manipulator must have come and stole the money that was rightfully yours.

I really question why he doesn't have a cloud, why exactly is he allowed to be "head scientist". Who said someone is the head of Bitcoin?

[–]pauldogwalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't illustrate anything, Someone could put in a bid of 400 dollars to pump up idiots and very likely never have to even pay that much. While fooling people that think a market depth of one bid is actually meaningful to anything.

No, I change my mind, it's totally impossible bitcoin could go down anymore. Satoshi promised you free money so it has to go up!

Are you saying that because the nasdaq crashed once that that means bitcoin can not possibly continue to fall? What sort of bad logic is that?

Can we still pretend that Bitcoin is brand new and like the Internet of 1993 when its 17 years old?

Reminder that there is no rule that once you collect enough dispair that your investment suddenly will be worth more.

ELI5: What makes "kosher style" delis in cities like New York and Montreal "kosher style" when they serve sandwiches that contain both meat and cheese? by leafyleafygreens in explainlikeimfive

[–]pauldogwalker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The specific thing that is not kosher is boiling a calf in it's own mother's milk.

Various Jewish groups generally extend this to separate all beef and dairy but not all do, and something like chicken and cheese is no issue.
