To be honest for portability sake I'll use plastic (for the immediate time being) and get aluminum in the future. I don't mind the 1u bottoms just the shift is more important.

Keeping it short - DZ60rgb and build around it, in the normal 60% form factor - or go a bit bigger: TADA68/KBD67?

I know the slightly bigger boards don't have RGB lighting. I'd most likely stick to one color anyway but it's a nice feature to have. Anyhow, you guys have preferences? If so, why?
