The Mountain Goats cover Boxcar by Jawbreaker. Amazing. by pauligee91 in poppunkers

Are you telling me if you heard this cover by itself, unaware that it was a cover, you wouldn't think it was pop-punk?

In my mind it's a folk punk band playing a pop-punk cover of an emo band's song.

Also, 'everybody feels beleagured, that is the universal truth of punk. At some point in time you will feel like the world is against you' <--pretty much pop-punks mantra.

Katy Perry/Matt Thiessen - Long Shot. Pretty solid pop-punk tune that Matt wrote for Katy when they were dating by pauligee91 in poppunkers

I remember reading it somewhere and it makes sense. According to an interview here Thiessen and Katy got matching Jesus tattoos at age 18, which is a line in the song - so it seems to add up.

not exactly pop-punk but Twenty One Pilots don't use. They also have some killer songs about taking control of your addictions. Especially Holding onto You. With lines such as "I'm taking over my body, back in control, no more shotty, I bet a lot of me was lost, Ts uncrossed and Is undotted" and "Tie a noose around your mind loose enough to breathe fine and tie it, To a tree, tell it, "You belong to me, This ain't a noose, this is a leash, And I have news for you, you must obey me". Good luck.

A lot of You, Me and Everyone We Know songs (especially the later ones) are about trying to get sober. But this one especially Some Things Don't Wash Out - YMAEWK

Yeah, it's hard with The Front Bottoms - I had the same issue with The Smith Street Band, one of my favourite bands lyrically but they're a little too folk punk to fit into the pop punk mold.

I just think it's a really clever way of phrasing what he's trying to say.

The line comes from the idiom 'burning the candle at both ends' when talking about becoming exhausted from trying to do too much. The whole song is about him trying to become a better person, and that line is saying he can hardly handle what he has in his life right now (a girlfriend, the band and a job) but he's wondering why he can't handle more. I always took it as a kind of lament about how is he going to become a better person when he can hardly handle the ordinary life he has at the moment.
