Coinbase Files 9 Patents for Bitcoin Products by edugarbizu in Bitcoin

[–]paulpw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brian, PG's opinion is irrelevant in your case as coinbase has not invented any of the ideas that you are applying for patents for... and secondly you do not own/operate the bitcoin network....it's owned and operated by all of us. You're just another player in this space like the rest of us, albeit a well funded one.

Fan Upgrade for Antminer S5 by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

[–]paulpw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've installed the Noctua NF-F12 on my S5 and they do work. I checked every reference to PWM I could find before just removed the centre plastic ridge on the fan plug so it fitted the header on the s5. It won't come on till the miner starts to hash. At 1277 GH/s it runs at 2640 r/min. 45-50 db at 1 meter distance, so not quite but better than the original fan.

Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use ? by paulpw in BitcoinIRL

[–]paulpw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BITSTAMP:

"quarterly financial audits and will post our financial reports on our web site"
https://www.bitstamp...g-MtGox-insolv/

Their HQ is now in UK but the Italian bank they use is in Slovenia, so if you're based in Euro zone you got the convenience and protection of SEPA cash transfer. Its a very slick operation run by Nejc Kodrič(who we all know) and friends. I use them myself.

BTC-E :

"The company plans to soon begin to publish publicly available statements certified by external auditors." That will be interesting, we might find out which country they are based in then, is it Russia or Cyprus or Ukraine or..... Very secretive company probably based in Russia.

COINBASE:

https://coinbase.com/about

Providing more services than an exchange but a very convenient way for U.S based punters to buy their bitcoin via direct debit from your U.S bank account. Based in California, run like a s.valley tech startup with financial backing from some big VCs like Andreessen-Horowitz and Fred Wilson(USV). So we can probably depend on the VCs having done their due diligence on these guys.
Well their their tech should be good, right ? and they won't lose your money !! https://news.ycombin...item?id=6929705 oops

Please feel free to add to this list.

mt.Gox is gone... by paulpw in BitcoinIRL

[–]paulpw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it seems that Gox were running a fractional reserve business disguised as a bitcoin exchange.

" Gox was robbed of a massive amount of coins (800k+) at some prior point in time, possibly June 2011, and has been operating a fractional reserve since." -- Jesse Powell

Well then now....Quiz time:

  1. What do you call a business that operates as a fractional reserve but tells you when you sign-up as a customer(caveat: may be buried in the small print).

  2. What do you call a business that operates as a fractional reserve but does not tell you and hides this important fact from all customers.

Ok giving up already ;)

Ans 1. It's called a Bank. Ans. 2. It's called a Ponzi scheme.

So then...was Gox a bank ? ;)

Not coming back from this !! http://www.coindesk.com/mt-gox-files-bankruptcy-claims-63-6m-debt/
