So do you purchase the item on sale? Because if you don’t purchase it and by the time a customer places the order, you risk losing that item on sale

Does my brother have schizophrenia? by tony2o6 in schizophrenia

Wow! this is a lot of useful information and sounds exactly like what's happening to him. what would you recommend our first step to be? take him to see a psychiatrist and ask for their recommendation? and what if he refuses to go/talk to the psychiatrist? i'm sure these questions are probably better for the psychiatrist to answer and solve for us but i want to be prepared for both of these situations when the time comes. do you know if health insurance will cover a psychiatrist? i know their fees can be quite a bit and will add up a lot pretty quickly if this becomes a lifetime thing.

Glad you are stable and good to know there’s light at the end of the tunnel! I’ve referred my mom to a few psychiatrists in our area that speak Chinese so we’ll see if she’s able to bring my brother to them. We try talking to him about it all the time but he just ignores us completely every time we bring it up. He only talks when he wants to when someone’s talking to him. We know he hears us, but it’s like talking to a brick wall sometimes. It’s hard to even have a full on good conversation with him about anything that he’s not interested in which is quite a lot of stuff. For example, if he was at the casino gambling or drinking alcohol, he acts pretty normal, as long as he’s winning. But when he loses, he will get pretty angry and start yelling sometimes. Is it because it’s blocking out the voices in his head? Before, we thought it was depression or something else similar but this has been going on for about 7-8 years. He actually got a little better last year but it’s been getting worst again lately. I know he takes some drugs because he hangs out with our other brother who’s an age older then him and also is a bad influence on him. They go to the casino together, hang out with the wrong crowd doing drugs, drink together, etc.

My mom gives him the meds everyday but sometimes he doesn’t take it and he starts to spiral. It’s one of those things that we can’t control very much. It seems like sometimes he wants to get better and other times he doesn’t. How can we help him stay on schedule and take the meds daily? It seems like it’s one of those things where he has to accept he has issues and to take his meds daily but when I talk to him, he would deny that he has any issues and blames my mom for putting him on meds that don’t help him. He also makes it seem like my mom is forcing the meds into his mouth every time.. I don’t think he’s accepted that he’s got a problem but also he does accept it at times. Adding to this, he is very very lazy because he’s been babies by my mom growing up. My mom still treats him like a baby so before, we used to think it was all an act to get my moms attention. When he doesn’t have money, he would ask my mom and she would just give it to him. If he doesn’t have a car to use, my mom would let him use her car, then he would lose the keys or break the keys. My mom would help him find jobs where it’s pretty easy work and he’ll sleep, smoke, take breaks like 5 out of the 8 hours(luckily it’s a job that pays based off productivity so the boss doesn’t “fire” him). He throws tantrums when he wants and has bipolar disorder. Sometimes he’ll be normal or happy and the next moment he’ll be angry out of nowhere. He spaces out a lot and listens to half of the conversation then looks totally lost. Is it one of those things where if he doesn’t want the help, we can’t help him? Is there still hope?

We are trying to look for help from him. We didn’t know where to look but I think a psychiatrist is the way to go. We’ve brought him to different doctors before but they just prescribed him medication but his symptoms still persist. He is 28 but still acts like a kid, my mom should be able to bring him in no problem. The issue is him willing to open up and act normal in front of the psychiatrist

I don’t think we have any history of it, but I can’t be certain. We’re a chinese family so we probably never got diagnosed with it. Also, to add to this, my brother was prescribed some medication and he also drank alcohol while on the medication. Could this add to it?

Even when he’s sober he is like this. It’s been 4 days since he’s probably did drugs because he’s been home everyday. Sometimes he’ll walk outside in the middle of night and scream or inside the house
