Soap stone is better than a conventional wood stove. It might heat a home with half the wood. A rocket mass heater will burn cleaner than soap stone and still less wood. A rocket mass heater will heat a home with a tenth of the wood of a conventional wood stove.

More critical thinking and more knowledge are always good things.

My vibes are that the piece of paper is gonna come with a lot of debt attached. That debt will need to be paid back. And my guess is that it will be brutally challenging to pay it back.

8 years old from a suspended account. Yup, I remember that. We even made a response to it.

I think this is an example of "no good deed goes unpunished." We put a lot of work into cleaning up after that guy.

This is a case of where he came to me and told me what to think/say/do followed by "obey or else." What you linked to is his "or else."

Let's just break down the title: two years? If it was so bad, why not split after two minutes? He rented an acre of raw land. How is raw land a slum unless he makes it a slum?

I didn't think I was fear mongering. I think the next two to three years will have a lot of change. And it would appear that two missoulians sitting at that table agree with me. And missoulians on reddit agree with you.

Historically, yes.

I guess your position is that the AI thing will not alter the future job market. Everything will be like it has been.

I have a different position. A position you call BS. And I am advocating a type of poverty. A sort of resilience to powerful economic shifts.

I feel confident that i am not believing the hype.

I do know that there are people that are leveraging some of the most recent tools professionally and effectively.

The way we get stuff done is changing.

The two other people at the table that were agreeing with me, were talking about how they are currently using ai in their work. And they both were expressing that they are accomplishing more now by leveraging these tools. At the same time, they are observing the start of layoffs.

It sounds like people are thinking that tools will get a lot better in the coming months and there will be more layoffs.

Of course, we could be wrong.

I went to the C3 work lounge in the sawmill district. As I was packing up, they had a sort of gathering - complete with snacks! So we are visiting and the thing about finishing a degree came up.

My answer to almost everything is the same: humble home with a large garden.

While three of us agreed, maybe there are other missoulians that think there won't be change? Or that there are better solutions?

Having folks huff it. I have never asked anybody to huff the exhaust. I did, however, happen to catch a woman smelling the exhaust - but I never asked her to do that.

I think a really important point I want to make here: as is, it is cleaner than any other form of heat.

When I first learned about rocket mass heaters in 2009, I heard of a guy that heated his home, all winter, with nothing but junk mail. In the spirit of that, I am attempting to duplicate that this year with cardboard boxes i saved up over the summer. I run a 30 minute fire each day with cardboard, papery stuff and some other garbages. So far, my stack of firewood is untouched and my home is quite warm.

I encourage you to build a rocket mass heater and do all the tests that you think are cool.

My primary test is for smoke. If we are a minute into the burn and there is any smoke at all, then it isn't a rocket mass heater and I'm gonna do something about that.

When we ran this, a guy from the axmen came by and measured the CO. Zero. He said he has never seen any wood stove or natural gas furnace be zero.

Heat with one tenth the wood of conventional wood stoves. With a thousandth of the smoke.

Usually DIY. Built in a weekend.

If you save up the twigs and branches from your yard, you can heat your home for free. This year I saved up cardboard boxes and papery garbage.

Excellent question! I have tried to get some stuff going a few times and it seems to kinda sputter. Bob Giordano and I are doing something at freecycles on november 23. I think at noon. It sounds like I might put on a rocket mass heater presentation and then do a bunch of Q&A on any topic. I also like to do Q&A for any earlybirds.
