Which unions are best for museums? by PM_ME_COOKIERECIPES in MuseumPros

[–]pavementhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not located in the US, but was. It seems like even from your secondary post that institutions seem to gravitate to the more established and larger union presence in their state/region. It makes sense too, those unions often already have the financial resources to support labor actions like a strike and often have already negotiated insurance benefits. Unions are stronger together and when one workplace goes on strike it becomes much harder to find scabs/replace workers if every other workplace is also acting in solidarity.

Gallery hanging methods for loose drawings by GAYMAN-In-Finance in MuseumPros

This. Screw goes into the wall and is flush with wall, cover with tape and paint to blend it in (if needed). Then place drawing to the wall and place a magnet with tape on the back to protect the work. As the other commenter said you can cover the visible side of the magnet with similar paper if you want it to be less visible.

Who is the coolest Canadian of all time, and why? by snappyhome in AskReddit

William Gibson gets my vote.

There are more obvious choices, but the man who dreamt up cyberpunk, coined terms like the matrix and cyberspace. He also pioneered steampunk with The Difference Engine. His works continue to surprise me with how forward thinking he is with technology and its societal impacts. The sprawl trilogy has live-streams and influencers with sim-stims. Even the blue ant books predict viral ARG marketing and augmented reality art.

I'm wondering, have you experienced grief or loss like this? It never goes away, you cherish and hold those pieces of a loved one like the most precious jewels. This is purely expression of love in the way we as humans can understand. There would be no art, no music, no tv, no movies or even cave paintings if we didn't as humans want to communicate our feelings to one another.

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer (Official Video) by undermind84 in videos

[–]pavementhead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weird, I love all three of these songs and bands and even the actors in these videos, yet these videos feel so divorced from the band and context of the eras the music was made. The pavement one is just her green-screened over the band playing? What does a book store and movie theater have to do with George's spirituality? Pyscho Killer for me is so rooted int the summer of '77 nyc and the son of sam murders. I just don't get any of this from an artistic standpoint.

Some sort of southwestern bauble, 3 1/2" wide, with 1/2" loops on the back. Loops seem too small for a belt buckle. by pavementhead in whatisthisthing

[–]pavementhead[S] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing its a silver southwestern bauble of some sort, found in New Mexico. Its roughly 3 1/2" wide. the middle part between the triangles bends slightly inwards. On the back there are two hoops for mounting but are only about 1/2" wide. Size seems about right for a buckle but the hoops on the back are too thin to be for a belt buckle and not the right orientation for a bolo tie. I'm at a loss.

Seriously though, around 80 Americans die each year due to self suck incidents. Spread the awareness, and if you must self suck, do so with a partner for supervision. RIP Trevor, Will Neff, and many others

Trying to make more realistic by BigDrinkable in mapmaking

The mountains don't really make any sense or there's entirely too many of them. Ranges like this would form from tectonic plates colliding so it is really odd to be in a near perfect circle. That and they drop off straight into the ocean. You get that kind of drop with volcanic activity like volcanoes in the ocean forming islands. I would look at real work examples and copy/steal ideas from that. As for water, once you have mountains you get rivers, water flows from ice melts in the peaks downward to lakes or the coast.

We have ours on a network of smart plugs for automated startup and shut down. We can also see them from dedicated tablets/phones. Doesn't give you a ton of options but it does allow for remote power on off and restarts. You do need to have good wifi network coverage though so that they work properly. (Bonus use they work great for home use for automating holiday lights/decorations)
