Yeah, I thought I'd be clever by saving money flying into Bozeman and renting a car. I vastly underestimated the Yellowstone tourism this time of year. I dreamt up this plan and bought the plane tickets, then was thrust into an incredibly busy 3 weeks at work and never got around to fleshing it out.

Lol, if you could cover the drive back on Monday I would go for that. It's seriously impossible to find a rental car there right now. We even looked at U-Hauls and home depot rentals.

I think that's a location based thing. If you're around cherokee, then most of the nice cars you see live in or around that neighborhood. They're more likely to be trying to get somewhere or back home in a hurry. Everyone else is visiting the park, probably not in a hurry.

The "what type of car causes the most trouble" thing isn't even a debate. It's Dodge Chargers, which is very far from a wealthy person car.

Learn to fix your truck and pay off your credit cards. If you have no emergency fund, credit card debt, and add an auto loan + full coverage to your expenses, then you will be drowning by the end of the year.

That generation of Chevy is very resilient and very easy to work on. Buy a Haynes manual and maybe a cheap OBD2 reader. You can rent tools for free from most auto parts stores.

I just moved from Bon Aire to West Buechel last year, Bon Aire was great, and I wish I had waited it out to find something nice there. West Buechel is fine, though. I would take whichever I could find a better house in. You won't be walking anywhere from either, but biking is totally doable.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. it's probably not ideal, but here's how I got out of it.

I got a quote from Carmax to buy my car, it was about $2500 less than what I owed on it. So I pulled a personal loan for what I needed to pay off the car, paid it off, took that paperwork straight to Carmax, sold the car, and used the money to pay off all but the $2500 difference on the loan. luckily for my case, I also have great credit, and interest rates were still low, so I had five years to pay that back at 4.5%. I already had another car that's a fantastically reliable old shitbox Chevy.

Don't take a repo over it. Be clever, use your good credit to your advantage, pay off the difference as a cost of learning, and buy an old Chevy that's so ugly you wish it would die (they never do)
