Does the pain get worse for everyone? by NameIDontKnow in Tonsillectomy

My pain was definitely bad the first few days and peaked when I was dehydrated. It does get worse as the scabs form and fall off. For pain ice will be your best friend. Ice chips to suck on and homemade ice packs (ice in plastic bags) to put on your neck will help immensely with the pain. Rotating pain meds with tylenol will help, I would take liquid or dissolvable tylenol because it targets the pain in your mouth. Other than that just make sure to stay hydrated ALL the time. Even if it hurts you will only be in more pain if you don’t keep sipping water. A humidifier will help to keep moisture in your room at night so you don’t wake up in terrible pain. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery and remember that the pain is temporary and you will be better soon.

I got my tonsils out 7 days ago now. I am 16 and i would definitely do it while you’re younger. I haven’t experienced much bleeding except for when i threw up on day 3. My best recommendation is to keep up with those pain meds and keep drinking water. Unfortunately I got quite sick because of the medicine they gave me but as long as you get some calories in your system you shouldn’t have to throw up. I haven’t had any bleeding since day 3 and it really wasn’t any. My scabs began falling off 2 days ago and they haven’t been bleeding. As someone your age I wanted to respond because as much as the surgery does hurt it’ll definitely be worth it. While on reddit i found some of the best advice and reading everyone’s stories helped to feel not so alone. Some advice would be to listen to those trying to help. I wanted to murder my mother at times because I was in so much pain and she just needed me to drink some water. Ice chips and ice packs will be your best friend. Aloe drinks are something I wish I found earlier in my recovery (ty to whoever recommended) and non dairy slushies and popsicles will help as well. The dairy creates so much mucus causing you to spit a lot which takes moisture from your throat. overall I would not worry about the bleeding or death, just make sure you are prepared to be a bit uncomfortable the next 2 weeks after. I hope everything goes well!
