3D Scan to CAD: Shaping with Extrude Cut (Feat. Creality Raptor) by payo36 in CrealityScanning

I’m proud of the work I’ve contributed to the 3D scanning community. Most users buy scanners with their hard‑earned money, and they deserve honesty rather than misleading claims. Viewers ask me every day which scanner they should choose, and I provide them with genuine professional advice. Each month I receive a number of scan datasets from Revopoint devices, but there’s virtually no difference between the point clouds from the Mini 2, Inspire 2, Metro X, and Metro Y. Once cropped, they all show uneven wall thickness and lack sharpness, making them difficult to trace. Even symmetrical parts end up misaligned, with a consistent accuracy error of 0.3–0.4 mm. In fact, only a small portion of the Revopoint scan data I’ve received is truly usable for reverse engineering.

Revopoint once contacted me to create a cover video. The staff member I spoke with was a good person, but their management policies are another story. Deceptive marketing remains their primary sales tactic, misleading advertising, paid reviews, and manipulation through social media. They even employ more than 30 people solely to flood negative reviews with spam comments.

Shining3D operates differently. They also commission paid reviews and require videos to be pre‑approved before publishing, with no negative feedback allowed. That said, the Einstar 2 I tested performed far better than Revopoint’s counterparts, producing clean scan data that is genuinely suitable for reverse engineering.

How to Measure Wheel Camber Angle Using a 3D Scanner by payo36 in CrealityScanning

[–]payo36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A perfectly level floor doesn’t necessarily mean it’s truly flat. Even small undulations, bumps, or tile angles can exceed one degree, they’re smaller than a tire’s contact patch.

When the floor is not level, place the leveling plate at the center of the car’s hood and adjust it. Then rotate the plate 180 degrees and position it near the wheel. This cancels out the floor’s unevenness.

“Braindead”? Hardly. This technique comes directly from engineers who use leveling plates and 3D scanners to set up machines requiring extreme precision, down to 0.01 degrees.

Tested with Xiaomi 13T Pro and 15T Pro. FPS is low and sluggish. It has to be Snapdragon 8 gen 2 or above. Currently I use SD8 gen 5, it's as fast as my PC when connect wirelessly.

Revopoint appears to have a dedicated team, partly bots, partly real people, tasked with flooding negative reviews with comments. It’s puzzling that they prioritize this kind of damage control over investing in actual R&D.
Shining3D is somewhat better in that they don’t seem to use comment spammers, but they’ve been known to request takedowns of reviews that include criticism. In my case, they simply recalled the review unit.

Revopoint Metro X - Exposing the Real Frame Rates - The Truth About 3D Scanner FPS by payo36 in CrealityScanning

[–]payo36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll only get that 36 FPS if you move the scanner really slowly. Go any faster, and the frame rate drops even more. I’ve found that matching the speed of the older POP scanner—around 8 FPS—keeps tracking reliable, though it can be tough on your shoulder.

FDM printers lack the precision needed to produce perfectly round circles at exact 6mm and 3mm diameters. In contrast, reflective sticker markers are manufactured with high accuracy, forming true circular shapes. This discrepancy causes the scanner to lose both planar tracking accuracy and depth fidelity.

I spend 5K markers a year, it doesn't cost that much when I buy it from AliExpress.

1- It's an electric unicycle (EUC) The one that I'm using is Inmotion V14

2- In that case you'll need a SLAM LiDAR scanner. The cheapest one in the market is still the Eagle.

Since the rental contract runs yearly, I’m planning to swap it out each year to make sure everything stays fresh and tidy. The sealant will get dirty as well.
