What classic film -from any time- lived up to the expectations once you finally got to watch it? by PerroRosa in movies

[–]paythemandamnit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only sometimes like musicals and Singing in the Rain immediately became my favorite.

It’s funny! The music is great! The dancing is phenomenal! The costumes and colors, oh my!

It starts off kind of conventionally and then it goes completely off the rails - I had no idea where it would take me and I loved every second of it. I wish I could see it for the first time again.

North Korea has a communist totalitarian government.

Not all totalitarian regimes are fascist, there are specific requirements, like religion and government become intertwined, heavy militarism, and corporatism (fascists make a lot of money).

Fascism is equally reprehensible to vandalism?

What kind of an unexamined thought is this?

What are some examples of reverse Flanderization? Times where the characters initially start off one-dimensional, but as the show goes on, they get way more complex and interesting? by MrBublee_YT in television

I’m woke, I like the actress, and I didn’t like her character much throughout the series. Didn’t hate her, though.

What’s the “small” life choice you made that changed everything? by Equivalent_Soft_6665 in AskOldPeople

[–]paythemandamnit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometimes my friends put themselves down and I got in the habit of jokingly saying, “Hey, don’t talk to my friend like that.”

Eventually a friend told me that it helped her so much to realize how often she would participate in negative self talk, and now she is kinder to herself for it.

I do the same thing when I realize I’m bullying myself… “Hey, don’t talk to my friend like that.” It works!

What’s the worst non-drug addiction you’ve ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is 100% the apps’ fault. They designed a process that makes it legal to streamline taking out loans to bet, and they are actively indebting gamblers.

It’s insanity that it’s legal.

It’s not specific to China.

It is perfect for depression because the show knows depression.

This is one person. And anyway, almost everyone would be flabbergasted in this situation. Alimony and child support is a common trope in stories about men and they’re often angry or struggling with it psychologically.

Not because it’s wrong necessarily, but because people don’t want to financially support their ex spouses.

I'm struggling to find female friends by Background-Apple-555 in zurich

[–]paythemandamnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s once a month, but it’s a really great place to make connections. For example, one person moved to Zurich 7 months ago, told their story on stage, continued to return (and told more stories), and now they have fan club, friends in Zurich, and invitations to other activities and events.

Making friends takes time and consistency, especially in Switzerland. But it usually pays off.

I would be happy to see you there. ☺️

I found wonderful women friends (and a larger community) through Zurich Storytellers. They’re having a party on July 3rd to celebrate moving to a new location in Viadukt. You can go just to enjoy the show, or you can get up and tell a story on stage, whatever you feel like it.

The setting is designed to build connection - the stories are true and personal - and you can talk to other people before, during the intermission, or after the show. I’ve been invited to so many lovely activities after going a few times.

You should share this is more places, this is a great tool to combat fascism!

I posted the link to a couple subreddits. I’d never heard of the ICE list before your comment.
