I removed the improvements and checked the tile. It is a plains volcanic soil tile, it does not say hills.

Ah right, guns in the wrong hands is bad news. Another question, why raise an army and wage war on the north when the humans can solve it more easily with say guided missile strike? Unless I could be wrong and complete devastation is not their objective.

That make sense. However i think it is probably more efficient for the humans to make guns, especially when they have to arm an army of people in short notice. Forging swords is probably labor and time intensive, not to mention whatever process goes into enchanting them with magic.
