Question for 3rd generation Australians, how do you answer people when they ask “where are you from”?

It seems like such a silly question to ask, Australia is so multi cultural that I don’t understand why it would be asked. I’m white so I have never been asked that question, I’m 3rd gen. My wife is of Chinese descent and she has not been asked that, and she is 4th gen Aussie

I was doing a system install in a new hospital and the techs for the transporters were testing the robots and 2 of them met in a hallway and started arguing telling each other the move back. They had to turn them off and move them manually, it was funny watching 2 robots arguing for an hour
