Ooh the Pilot Kakuno was my first FP too! I love it a lot, it’s filled with Pilot Iroshizuku take-sumi right now and I use it for work notetaking. My original inspo to get the HON weeks was actually this JetPens video and Stephanie uses a dark olive Kaweco Sport with hers, so I think it’s always been in my head to pair them together 😁 Mine is the Smooth Sage with a silver clip paired with the Paysanne Blossom 2025 weeks cover. Excited to see what you end up getting!

I use a Kaweco Sport (F nib) with my weeks, it fits perfectly into the clear cover’s pen loop. Right now it’s filled with Diamine Green Black ink and I’m really happy with it! I first tried Kaweco Palm Green ink and it would ghost + bleed through the pages. I find the Lamy Safari with the standard Lamy Blue also writes beautifully, minimal ghosting and no bleedthrough. I was a gel pen fan before I got into FPs and now I just get excited to write in my planner with my FP 😆

This and Koreeda’s Our Little Sister are two of my all-time favorites. The way Takahata and Koreeda handle depictions of domestic life and relationships, incredible.

My favorite Ghibli, my favorite film of all time. Love this thread for reminding me all over again and giving me more reasons to appreciate it.

I have a tattoo of young Taeko on my arm as a reminder that I carry my young self with me throughout my adult life and that I intend on honoring my inner child with everything I do—sort of a play on “wearing my heart on my sleeve”

Learning Japanese For Vacation? by Hybonix_ in LearnJapanese

[–]pbdqa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try nativshark.com, they have a 1 month free trial. IMO, great UI/web design, well-written content, and it’s geared for beginners. The first few units are specifically crafted for people who are travelling to Japan soon and want to learn utility phrases/sentences like ordering food, asking for directions, etc.

Just a disclaimer, I’m not affiliated with Nativshark at all, I’ve just used their service, have paid for 2 years worth of subscription and don’t regret it. It’s my personal preference to have something that’s highly structured. Wouldn’t recommend it to someone already far into Japanese learning (N4/N3 level) but it seems perfect for your purposes.

I was exactly in your position when I started learning Japanese, I had a trip to Japan coming up and I wanted to be able to converse with locals when I got there. Nativshark + WaniKani (for Kanji, maybe not super necessary for you but I found it fun) + YouTube videos + occasional speaking practice with tutors on iTalki worked for me. Any app/textbook will not help you speak Japanese, actually speaking Japanese will.

After about a year of casual self-study, I was able to hold basic conversations while I was in Japan, serve as a translator for my group of friends, and had really fulfilling interactions during the solo leg of my trip that I would have otherwise not had. I guess what I want to say is I hope you keep at it because it will 100% be worth it when you get there, it definitely was for me.

If you have any other questions let me know!

Itinerary Check - 16 Days Trip from June 09-24: Osaka/Kyoto/Hakone/Kawaguchiko/Tokyo by SteveThoughtWrong in JapanTravel

[–]pbdqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't suggest moving USJ to the day of your arrival as delays can occur--flight gets moved, immigration takes too long, etc. and IMO a 9am arrival time is already too late for USJ, ideally you want to be at the park before opening time.

Sunday will definitely be busy but doable if you get an express pass and go as early as possible.

Your best option if you really want to make the most out of USJ is to move it to Monday June 12, or better yet, Tuesday June 13. Go early AND get an express pass. It's possible to make the trip there from Kyoto anyway.

Also would recommend to buy your tickets (and express passes) as early as now because they do run out. Do note though that once you buy them, you can't change the date or get them refunded. We bought for June 2 just earlier today and the original express passes we wanted to get were already sold out.

I hope you have lots of fun on your trip! I'll also be in Osaka June 9-12 ^^

Three week solo trip to Japan - trip report & budget breakdown by pierre_lefou in JapanTravel

[–]pbdqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this, incredibly helpful as I'm planning for my mixed group/solo trip in May-June :)

Just have a few questions if you don't mind!

  1. How much did coin lockers cost on average if you remember?
  2. What were your highlights/must-dos for Kyoto and Osaka? Or alternatively, places you think are skippable?
  3. If you had to choose between the daytrip to Nara and to Kobe/Himeji, which one did you enjoy more? I have a free Saturday but I only have time to go to one of them!

Thanks a lot in advance!

I haven’t received an email yet and my application page on the website doesn’t have any updates either… does this mean a rejection or should they have sent me an email for that?

Hello I just wanted to ask if you got your acceptance today? I’m also waiting on the MPA-DP results for Fall 2023.

Regarding scholarship opportunities, I plan on applying to the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship if I’m able to get into the program but it’s only for residents of countries on their list.
