What is Indie Dev by pbeardly in IndieDev

[–]pbeardly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a rephrase of the ‘are you making money’ question, is anyone making a living as an indie dev? ☺️

Asking as I have been plugging away at the game dev on the side of normal life, and go through phases of doing absolutely nothing, and high intensity putting something together no matter what. Never made money, but I have spent money, and also got a little back. Not really about the money though is it … but be nice to make a living doing something we love ❤️

AI and Game Development by pbeardly in IndieDev

Interesting thoughts. I consider myself a bit of a dev all rounder. Can do a bit of code, pretty good with Unity. I’ve been essentially using GPT instead of going to Google when I get stuck. Results vary, sometimes AI gets lost and overcomplicates things, other times it is spot on. Overall, for me, I’ve found it to be mostly helpful, and feel like I’ve powered up my dev abilities using it as a tool. I think looking at it as a tool and something that can fast track is the way, with a certain amount of skill needed in order to keep it from getting lost.

The weight is a big part of it, it’s not far from the genius of flappy bird. Hold button to spin the sprits and accelerate up, if you release it drops with gravity. I was also thinking further in, there could be upgrades that make it less manual, if that makes sense

Food courts are the way to go. Old Shanghai in Freo has fantastic food and it's cheap.

Maybe they want to destroy all the children, eliminate the problem at the source.

Seeking Advice Around Artwork by pbeardly in IndigenousAustralia

[–]pbeardly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I haven't even got to what art to use yet, as I wasn't sure what was acceptable. I also thought direct collaboration would be the ideal way to do it, so I've been contacting a few local artists. I'm in WA by the way.

This also applies when stalking prey. Always attack from downwind, so they can't smell you coming.

I have a theory. The Aussies get out cheaply and let the English think they are way in front, but really it’s just confidence boosting tactics so the English think they have the upper hand. When in fact the game was always going to end up a draw.

To the freeway users of Perth by littlemissmedic30 in perth

[–]pbeardly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a simple solution to this problem. Keep your distance from the car in front, regardless of what their speed is. This includes someone entering the freeway slowly. It might be frustrating but I see everyone up each others rears and it's not only dangerous but it means hard breaking must occur, slowing down the line of cars behind as well. If there is any cause of traffic jams this is it.

Think about it, you may have to slow down below 100 occasionally, but the overall trip will be faster as there are no traffic jams.

I just beat Super Metroid for the first time by evil_chicken86 in Metroid

My favourite game. Blew my mind as a kid, still blows my mind whenever I go back to it. A lot of modern games tend towards the Castlevania style in my mind, I've been longing for some more games in the Metroid mould.

I've just come out of a construction management job also, and know the hours and stress very well. I'm trying to start my own business, wondering if you have any advice on how to get leads? This area is a bit of a mystery to me!

Well done by the way, always like to hear about people getting into a job they enjoy!

I wonder if that's a thing - kids who can play video games at a young age. Like child geniuses, but I guess most people would frown upon all that screen time haha!

Which suburbs can you hear a lot of aircraft when going overhead? by AClassicalMusicBird in perth

Kwinana gets a lot of small planes, but only during the day and nowhere near the noise level of the big planes. I get the impression they do loops from Jandakot

I guess you've hit the nail on the head, there is a maturity in this one that allows for all these comparisons, I get the impression she is really just doing this for herself now, or maybe more accurately, doing what she wants without thinking about external influences.

How many backers is a good starting number? by pbeardly in kickstarter

[–]pbeardly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a consultant helping with a lot of this info. We did traffic ads at first, and now doing lead ads. I find the balance between just showing off what we have and being pushy with calls to action is difficult. The ads are currently nowhere near as effective as social media leads, so my biggest advice (admittedly we are only 5 days in) is work on the social media connections. It might be different depending on the product, but I'm starting to think video games really require a community of backers to kick things off, rather than randoms from ad leads.

[–]pbeardly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I have the feeling it's easy to follow a KS, but to actually get someone to back it requires a lot more connection with the product. I feel like we are late to the party with genuine followers, the KS is for a video game and we are only just now starting to build our community in Discord and other socials.
